Stay at Fortuna Spinoza as a highlight of our trip. It is better than on the pictures, its VERY clean, from our room we had a magic view to the garden. Breakfast was excellent with a big attention to detail and local products. Edam town is nearby too. Our hosts were really helpful when we arrived and the apartment was clean and had everything we needed. Monnickendam is very pretty with lovely places to eat and perfectly located for a trip to Amsterdam which we did on the bus in 30 mins. We explored Volhendam, Edam and Marken by bike.
