we were only passing through on the way to Townsville- but beautiful wide streets, some gracious Victorian architecture that hasn't beendominated by skyscrapers behind the original facades, streets seemd quiet but still with life on the Sunday night we were there
does this question pertain to the Riverside Park or to the town in general? If it was to the park it was okay. Grateful to have had a sleep although I was freezing cold. The town itself. The entrance was neat and tidy I had to go to the ROCKHAMPTON HOSPITAL for an appointment. The general cleanliness of the HOSPITAL was below expectations. I am a trained nurse myself.‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️ The doctor was rude, arrogant and belittling. I have already submitted a formal complaint. Where I had dinner was lovely and the staff friendly. The gas station was also good service and friendly. The shopping centre however the day I left I went to 5 different shops and I don’t know whether they had a bad hair day or been sucking on lemons but they were rude and unhelpful one store. I was in there over half an hour before anybody even acknowledge that I was in the store and there was only one other person there as a customer so my experience with ROCKHAMPTON in general was disappointing
Rockhampton is a bustling large country town with plenty to offer the casual traveller. It retains the train lines running along the main streets and the people have not surrendered their country hospitality for the ‘heads down’ attitudes that are pervading our Capital cities.
Historic waterfront precint better than Adelaide or Hobart....a must visit 2. Cafe, Bakeries, etc were very good........especially Coffee Club on Quay Street, the Artizen Gluten Free Bakery, Malaysia House, and at the Rocky Brewery. 3. Explore town riding the local Bus services 4. The 1909 Steam Tram ride at the Archer ParkRail Museum....only steam Tram still running in the world 5. Worlds only proposed Olympic Rowing Course with crocerdiles in the whole wide world.......an incentive for crews to row faster then they ever have before.
Rockhampton Botanic Gardens incorporates a zoo. Entry to both is free. The gardens are extensive and very beautiful. There is a very nice cafe with tables under huge banyan trees which I enjoyed (excellent cappuccino). I also loved the zoo which contains a range of animals (mainly "rescue" animals). There are informative talks scheduled throughout the day. I was able to get close to many animals - my favourites were the cassowary, the dingoes, the emus, the wedge-tailed eagle and the funny little meercats. Unfortunately, I only had time to spend one day in the gardens. The tourist information office was very helpful. They gave me a bus timetable and a brochure about the area of Heritage buildings in the centre of town along the river. I enjoyed looking at the buildings and learning about their history. I also loved the art exhibition about Queensland in Rockhampton Art Gallery. I enjoyed my stay in Rockhampton very much.
The facilities in Rockhampton were very surprising! The zoo was amazing (and surprisingly free), there are lots of great parks and playgrounds for kids, and also plenty of great shops and dining options.
