Castletown had lots of back alleys, viewpoints and museums...
Castletown had lots of back alleys, viewpoints and museums plus the local bus service stopped in the town square. There was quite a bit to watch with several motorbikes setting off and a pipe band there today. Castle Rushen dominates with a very pretty little harbour and several museums as well as the steam train leaving quite close by. It was very pretty and much more interesting than Douglas. We arrived by ferry and the bus journey was lovely from Douglas to Castletown. We flew out from Ronaldsway airport which was walking distance and has the best small military museums that I have ever been to. Can't rate the town highly enough.Guest review byRichard HampsonUnited Kingdom - 10.0
The little village of Ballabeg is in a very pretty setting.
The little village of Ballabeg is in a very pretty setting. It does get very dark at night so carry a torch. The location was a short walk to the steam train station. You can catch the train from here and go to Douglas etc. Check the timetable as you need to stop the train. We ate at the pub in the next village, which was great food with a Sunday Carvery, there was also a small shop next door. We only had about 4 days touring the whole island, which for us was about right. The village is mainly residential so take lots of supplies with you or from the local shop. We had our van and cycles with us, to get out and about. The IOM is a wonderful, quiet island and will definitely return.Guest review byJaneUnited Kingdom - 8.0

I have visited the IOM since 2007 and have visited/stayed in Castletown on a number of occasions.A quiet picture postcard place .I would reccomend a visit to the Castle Lovely local shops bars restaurants /cafes. Castletown is the home to The Southern 100 motorcycle races in early July for 5 days each year .so best to avoid if not your interest 🏍🏍🏍🏍🏍 If you're planning a trip to the IOM Castletown is a great base point after arriving on the ferry in Douglas . Various types of stay from Hotel to self catering to Air BnBGuest review byMartin RobertsUnited Kingdom - 8.0
As a central location for access to local bus routes or car...
As a central location for access to local bus routes or car hire access it’s great. There is the noise from the airport when it starts it’s day but nothing to disturb a good nights sleep. Ballasalla itself has a local pub and takeaway for local meals. Further north is the capital Douglas or south to the beaches of Port Erin and Port stMary all within 20 minutes drive. To the west up into the hills and Glens to the east Castletown with its own historic castle a town centre wrapped around the harbour . It’s just all so easy.Guest review bySharonUnited Kingdom - 10.0
The Castle was really interesting and well worth a visit.
The Castle was really interesting and well worth a visit. There were some other small museums that were interesting but the man in the maritime ? museum went rambling on too much and we had to leave before we actually saw the boat and the smugglers route. Some pleasant walks along the coast and in the town.Guest review byJanetUnited Kingdom
