Fukuoka (0.6 miles from Fukuoka Airport)
Right in the heart of Fukuoka, Enzo Fukuoka features rooms with free Wifi. The property is around 1.3 miles from Level 5 Stadium, 1.6 miles from Higashi Hirao Park, and 1.8 miles from Tsuya Park. During our trip, we stayed with my family at the Enzo Hotel twice. Both times we took two rooms. In terms of price-quality ratio, we can say that the offer is excellent. Right around the corner is the red line metro station, a large Trial grocery store is a ten-minute walk away, and the proximity to the airport allowed us to comfortably and without fuss get ready for our further journey. The rooms themselves are clean, comfortable and quite spacious (we expected it to be cramped). The rooms are quiet, all the equipment is in good working order, everything you need is available. The first time we stayed for 4 nights and the second for two, in both cases the sound from the airport was not audible (it seems to stop working at 22:00).
Shime (0.6 miles from Fukuoka Airport)
ラ・ポート空港前101 offers accommodations in the center of Shime, a 19-minute walk from Level 5 Stadium and 1.3 miles from Higashi Hirao Park. We liked that it was close to Fukuoka airport, got given very detailed instructions on how to get there and how to access the room etc. We appreciated the presence of a laundry machine and kitchen utensils, plates and bowls so we could cook and do our laundry. It was great for our 1 week stay before we flew out of the city. We had no car but it was manageable to lug our luggage from La Port to the Domestic side of the Airport by following the recommended route. Just be careful and mindful of the cars on the road.

Extremely clean, well insulated, super comfortable beds/bedding and the facilities like shower, toilet and kitchen were in great condition. Was easy to find and get the key. It was a spacious unit too. Toiletries provided as well. Cupboard had space to put out suitcases out of the way. All the small details mean a lot. Was good to have easy access to the airport and not having to take multiple trains.

I was in Fukuoka for 7 days (4 days at the Nishitetsu Croom Kushida Shrine, and another 3 at the Mitsui Garden Nakasu—just for the experience of being at two chain hotels). The city is big but clean and well laid out, making using the GPS easy. I felt the population wasn’t all that crowded, compared with Tokyo. The center of transportation is the Hakata Station, big but manageable. Actually, on the very first day at Fukuoka Airport, I was confused of how to get an IC card at a machine but was helped by a very kind elderly lady (a volunteer) who spoke good English. She helped me get the card, told me where to go for the shuttle bus to the domestic terminal, and in fact followed me to the gate. Then, I took the subway (using the IC card) to Hakata Station and changed for another line to Geon but didn’t get the right line so ended up having to walk more than I should have. Later, a friend told me to take a taxi since it was quite reasonably priced but I ended up walking back and forth to Hakata Station most of the time since the first hotel wasn’t far at all. Outside of Fukuoka, a few friends and I also took the Shinkansen to Saga, a lovely little ancient village specializing in making ceramics—but try to get there early, eg, before 9 or 9.30, or else you might have trouble finding a parking like us who rented a Toyota from the Saga Station. Another city that we explored was Beppu, a much bigger place than Saga—with the 7 famous onsens, including mud ones which we didn’t try—too bad. I haven’t seen much of Fukuoka or Kyushu Island, so must get back there soon! I loved Fukuoka! It was a good experience—with practically everything, good food, good department stores (eg. Mitsukoshi, Canal City, Daimaru Tenjin), even a good CD shop (ie. Tower Records).
We loved the Sumiyoshi area as it was relatively close to Hakata Station (15 minutes) and all its shops and restaurants. Not far to Tenjuin by train and more shops and train connections. We really enjoyed the cherry blossoms around Fukuoka and the lovely range of spring flowers, especially the tulips and emerging azaleas
This was the last city on our trip. We started in Tokyo, then went to Kamakura, Mishima, Kyoto, Nara, Osaka and Hiroshima. Fukuoka, as seen from an outside perspective, is the most vibrant. Communication is more candid, humor is more evident, people are more talkative, and there's a slight "Vegas meets Japan" vibe at night, with some of the more adult clubs' advertising.
The city is pretty and clean, a lot staff to do, near the city plenty of beautiful islands so you can enjoy scenery Public transportation REALLY good, for people who try to spend less money and see more You can also book different bus tours from Hakata station for affordable price Plenty of good restaurants, Fukuoka Tower, team Lab Fukuoka and so on
Fukuoka is a great city; one can relatively get around by walking or using their subway/bus system. The airport is literally "around the corner" only two stops away using the subway line. Relaxed and laidback like Nagasaki, it is a very inviting city.
The city is a bit more worn down then I remember from prior trips. Lots of good places have closed or changed into different businesses. The construction is also more frequent around the main station. The food is still just as good as ever and there are still hidden gems if you explore some of the less traveled areas. Unexpectedly hot this autumn though.
Excellent location. There is so much shopping and a variety of restaurants to choose from at AMU Plaza and within the underground station below the hotel. We especially liked the convenience of having a large and well stocked 7 Eleven nearby. The space in our corner room was ample and well designed. Easy access to and from Fukuoka Airport.
This hotel is very close to the Gion train station exits (2 and 6 I think). It’s convenient for travel to Hakata, Tenjin, and Fukuoka Airport. You get fresh towels, robes, and slippers, daily, and there’s actually an ice machine and a laundry machine downstairs. It was all very convenient and I would absolutely stay here again.
