Location and Transport
John Wayne Airport sits on the edge of the city of Santa Ana (6 miles/10 kilometres from the centre) but it’s reached via the town of Irvine. Taxis and shuttles take around 20 minutes to get the centre of Santa Ana and cost about USD 30. During the week, public buses 76 and 212 run hourly from around 06:00 until 18:00. There’s also a bus to Disneyland® in LA, which leaves from Arrivals and departs hourly between 08:00 and 19:00.

Irvine was a central location for the activities we had planned for our vacation. We spent a lot of time at the beach and our hotel in Irvine was a short drive to the beaches we visited. Everything we wanted and needed was within a short distance from the hotel. Lots of noise from other rooms all night until 7:00am. Rattling plumbing pipes all night. Excessively loud plumbing noise when adjacent rooms ran water which went on all night long. There was a TV in the room but no TV service. The room had two beds, a frig, a microwave, and one chair. No desk or anything else. I have never seen a room with such spartan furnishings.
