It had a nice feel to it. On a quiet street and a short walk from the train station. Everything is newly finished by the owner himself, who is interested in sustainability and local community. The bed was comfortable and the sleeping pod was spacious and well designed. The pods give yiu privacy even if you’re staying with others in the shared room. I had an enjoyable night and this was a good value for money. Beyond that, Takumi (owner) was super friendly and accommodating. His property is a DIY place that he’s built out and is a fun place for building a community. There is a central area to sit and eat, which is a nice way to meet other travelers. If you’re traveling through and want to meet locals and others, I think this would be a great little hub.

At this price point you would expect everything to be pretty much perfect, and it was. From arrival, you barely have to lift a finger, all you have to do is just decide when you would like your dinner and breakfast. from chk-in, the staff take great care of you, walk you through to your room while introducing the facilities, food is of good quality. the room was well maintained with your own little japanese garden. the private onsens were great, with view out to the nearby hills in autumn colours. due to the small scale of the ryokan, the shared onsens turned out to be pretty private too. loved the towels they provide, so much so i bought one to take home. most staff do not speak english, but they have some english briefing notes for foreign guests and most signs are in english/ japanese you don't really feel like you are missing out of on much.

A perfect place for backpackers and mountaineers looking to spend some time in nature. There are hiking trails and a cliff for rock climbing on the nearby Makuyama mountain. The stand out feature was the balcony overlooking a river and the surrounding hills and mountains. The place is well equipped for even a long stay (a desk and a solid WiFi proved more than sufficient for some desk work) but it may be too basic for some.
