This time I saw Shkodra with different eyes. The city’s diversity of people and cultural mix stood out strongly, and over the weekend the lively atmosphere of parties gave it an energetic spirit. What touched me most, however, were the Catholic churches scattered around the city. Stepping into them gave me a profound sense of spirituality and peace, balancing the vibrant social scene outside. Reviews we read of Shkoder said it's a university town with lots of biking. Not sure what those reviewers were writing about, but there weren't many bike friendly areas and the town was not as vibrant as we expected. We did spend some time in the Shiroka area on the lake a 10 minute or so drive from Shkoder and that was very nice - good restaurants and lake activities. Shkoder is a lovely city with great views, food and nice accommodation facilities. It's a safe place for families and youths with lots of activities around. On arrival we struggled with the parking in the centre, they gave us a call and helped us park the car in no time, before taking our bags to the room. They helped us park our car, did our laundry, made coffee several times, helped carrying our bags and let us use their bicycles. Things that weren't necessary but they did it anyway which made it a special stay. The apartment is super clean, comfy beds and in the old town of Shkoder. It is a big house with a beautiful garden. Included in the price was also a very good breakfast with some traditional Albanian food. Only small downside was that it was a little bit hot, but that is not their fault, because it was almost 40 degrees when we stayed there.
