Reviews we read of Shkoder said it's a university town with lots of biking. Not sure what those reviewers were writing about, but there weren't many bike friendly areas and the town was not as vibrant as we expected. We did spend some time in the Shiroka area on the lake a 10 minute or so drive from Shkoder and that was very nice - good restaurants and lake activities. Shkoder is a lovely city with great views, food and nice accommodation facilities. It's a safe place for families and youths with lots of activities around. It's not a random hostel running by volunteers, but by a young duo of welcoming and fun Albanians who love to spend their time there. They know their city and country by heart and give you advices about whatever you need. The dorms are big enough, the bathroom is huge, everything is clean.
