Bad Gastein is a totally magical place, if you like rowdy slope side apres and a buzzy town centre, go to St Anton. Bad Gastien's signature are it's spa and the weirdly magical atmosphere the huge number of belle epoch hotels, some refurbed an open, some semi-abandoned, some totally derelict. This is our second visit in two years, so we love this beautiful scenic town with hiking trails you can walk to from the centre. The air is so fresh, which was why we came here to escape the oppressive hot summer air of Vienna. If you can rent an apartment with a kitchen, there is also a great (huge!) Skiing in Graukougel is a must. Fine dining at Bertahof, just north of Bad Gastin, is strongly recommended, fantastic Austrian food experience. Table reservation is needed. Eat at Schmaranz in Bad Hofgastein, everything localy produced at the farm. You'll eat by the open fire where the food is cooked. A place for meat lovers.Guest review byLenaSweden - 10.0
Bad Gastein used to be the place to be in the mountains...
Bad Gastein used to be the place to be in the mountains until 60 years ago. The architecture reflects this, beautiful belle epoque buildings everywhere. Unfortunately Bad Gastein wanted to become more "modern" in the 60-70ies. So they destroyed the village with awful buildings. The elegance was lost. Since 20 years those mistakes are being corrected and from my point of view they managed to hide the worst "architectural disturbances" in the meanwhile. And you can already feel it: it´s alive again and again gives one the impression to be in an elegant, timeless place. Also it seems that a new generation of hoteliers and restaurant owners is bringing some freshness into the village. So i can clearly recommend: go and see!Guest review byVeitAnderAustria

Cleanliness 10/10, breakfast team, food in restaurant is worth around least Michelin recommendation. Bedding is perfect, sleep with waterfall sounds and views are far beyond expectations. The view from the room is fantastic to the city, beds are comfortable. Owner speaks english. Breakfast is good, they have real coffee from machine not just the braun water as usually.
