this hotel is quirky but so beautiful. The staff on reception went out of their way to help us when we wanted to stay another night and they were so busy. it’s in the most beautiful of streets and close to walk everywhere. wish we didn’t have to leave - it was the highlight of our trip!

FAQs about hotels in Salzburg

The Hills Are Alive in Salzburg

Made famous for its “hills alive with the sound of music”, Salzburg is a very pretty town filled with romantic buildings and squares. If you are not yet aware that Mozart was born here, then you will be as soon as you land at Salzburg W.A. Mozart International Airport.

Further your education about this musical prodigy at his actual birthplace, Mozarts Geburtshaus. The city is the namesake of the Salzach River which runs through it, and alongside this beautiful river lays the Schloss Mirabell, one of the many impressive castles within the city limits. Schloss Mirabell and Hellbrunn with their picturesque gardens, beautiful galleries and impressive halls make the ideal spot for a picnic during summer.

The white-stone Hohensalzburg fortress is perched upon a green hill and offers magnificent views over the city. Or, you can escape it all in the Kapuzinerberg forest, which offers splendid Alpine vistas- a reminder of Salzburg’s natural beauty.

The shopping centre focuses around Alter Markt Square and Getreidegasse, the latter is a quirky street with old-fashioned signs indicating what each store sells. With 125 hotels and guesthouses available on Booking.com, your stay in Salzburg is bound to be as pleasant as this city is pretty.

The Hotel Kohlpeter was in a quiet residential area of Salzburg with very convenient access to a bus stop and grocery store. Old Town Salzburg has many sights to see: fortress up on top of the hill, churches with fabulous architecture, some of St. Peter's catacombs where the Sound of Music was partially filmed. There are many great restaurants, walk along the river and some days, there is quite a market with tents as far as the eye can see. Across the river is another interesting area so don't miss this as well. Be sure to take a bus or drive to the Hellbrunn Palace and enjoy all the water theatrics outside. We enjoyed Mozart's father's house where he was brought up ... the birth house isn't as worthy.

    Amazing city of Salzburg.

Amazing city of Salzburg. I love this city and a good ideea is to buy a day public transport and move around the city. If you go from airoport just buy a bus tichet 2.5 euro and choose Bold ONLY if you want to be more comfortable. Salzburg offer a lot of thinks to do around and the people are amaizing plus the food are good to. I thing 3 day is ok to see the city.

I liked the slower pace of Salzburg compared to other major tourist European cities. The vibe is friendly but a bit more laid back. It is a very walkable city but has so much to offer. It is very historic not just because of the famous movie sound of music, which made it more popular all over the world. It is after all the birthplace of Mozart. Nature lovers will definitely appreciate the rolling hills and mountains and the quaint villages not far from the city centre. Salzburg is a very safe destination for solo travellers but it will be more fun visiting it with someone who shares common interests.

The old town centre is very picturesque and the area around the Market Place is traffic-free. Mozart's birthpace is one of the main attractions and is very interesting to visit, and not too expensive either. I'm not too great with heights but I thoroughly enjoyed riding the funicular to the Castle for terrific views over the city and out towards the Alpine mountains. Mirabell Park is great for a leisurely stroll, and there is a small playground to keep the children entertained. The restaurants and bars are plentiful and serve a variety of different cuisines to suit all tastes, but try the local specialities such as sausages, stews, schnitzels and goulash, and there is always a good range of German and Austrian beers and lagers to choose from.

It is better to visit on a Friday and stay until Saturday.

It is better to visit on a Friday and stay until Saturday. Sunday is very quiet. Almost no shops open and the best restaurants are either not open or require prior reservation. The city is much more than a Mozart touristy novelty. I enjoyed touring the Castle Fortress at the top of the hill. I was disappointed that the Salzburg museum and chapel were closed to visitors on Sunday. But this was due to special events and renovations.

Due to the high prices for hotels in Salzburg this is a really nice option. Your own cabin is perfect and the facilities are amazing and its very clean. The guy at the reception is very kind and it was just a lovely stay. If you arrive by train the location is perfect. Its right next to the train station, and the city centre is just in walking distance. I would recommend staying here!
