A quintessential Australian country town. A lot of money from the 19th century gold rush but a loss of people to the major capitals has had an obvious impact on the people and the businesses. A Saturday night in winter was death by boredom but I'm sure the racing weekends bring a lot of money into the town. Be warned, this is a meat town! Steaks were large and tasty. After driving the Mt Panorama circuit a few times (once was not enough) at a calm 60kmh, it has given me a new appreciation for the drivers and cars that fly around the circuit on race days. It is a definite Must Do if you are visiting/staying in Bathurst. A visit to the Australian Fossil and Mineral Museum, Bathurst Rail Museum (for the magnificent mini railway display) and Chifley Home are worth a visit. We needed to stay at least a week as there is a lot to experience. We enjoyed a stroll around the city and some of the surrounding streets. This was a great way to see some of the beautiful architecture in Bathurst. Food options are great - breakfast, lunch and dinner. Lovely town with super friendly people. Good places to eat and to shop plus the famous Bathurst racetrack. The motor museum was an amazing look back at the history of the track. Site of famous Mt Panorama car racing track. Many things to do in Bathurst, including historic houses and museums. Nearby towns include Hill End, Sofala and Mayfair Gardens, which are good day trips. Also Zigzag railway accessible. Good dining with several pubs and some good restaurants, plus all the usual fast food outlets. Great location for 3-5 days.Guest review byJohnAustralia

Terese and Andrew were lovely hosts. The hot breakfast was freshly made and not from a buffet. It was included in the price. I enjoyed every mouthful. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. Not exaggerating, I think it’s one of the best sleeps I’ve had apart from my own bed. Andrew was full of interesting information about Bathurst. And to top it all off great views. I could not fault the staff, everyone I interacted with were amazing and helpful. The rooms were surprisingly quiet, I wasn't sure if they'd be a bit noisy with the pub being right downstairs and the main street right outside the window, but they were very quiet, and I didn't hear anything.
