Love Eildon, going to the weir, nice trip to Alexandra, nothing much in Eildon, very cold wet and slushy this time of year. I realise if you want good accommodation you have to pay a lot more than we did, unfortunately what I read in the reviews was nothing like it was, so it wasn’t an accurate description.

Spectacular scenery - rivers, mountains, small towns with good facilities and the beautiful Lake Eildon. A photographer's delight! Or bushwalker, fisherman, boater, kayaker or general tourist. Plenty to do and see. Only short distances between towns around Eildon.

Very quiet place with not a lot to do, unless you are into fishing and trail walking. The day trips were good to Marysville and Stevenson falls. Some great trail walks at Stevenson falls. Disappointed with most shops not being open for trade at Eildon. Friendly community and very helpful. Great Op-shop.

We stayed in Thornton which is central to where we were visiting, Taggerty 12km away, Alexandra 12km away and Eildon 13km away. Thornton is a small quiet town with a very relaxing atmosphere, the residents are very friendly and hag ppy to have a chat. All the towns are picturesque and have different things to offer, Taggerty is a small town nice walking tracks, Alexandra a larger town with plenty of shops and dining establishments and Eildon with the lakes and waterways excellent for trout fishing and water activities.

Great little town but lack of dinner options at times.

Great little town but lack of dinner options at times. We were there on a Tues and no takeaway shops were open and all local pubs etc booked out. So maybe book ahead for dinner. Lovely to walk around the pondage, beautiful scenery. Make sure you check out Snob Creek Falls too (about 10 kms away)- they are spectacular! We even saw a gorgeous echidna right outside our Motel.
