Liked the Wannon Waterfalls within 20 minutes of the town.
Liked the Wannon Waterfalls within 20 minutes of the town. Unfortunately, the other one was closed for repairs and signage was not used to inform travellers. So many people, including me would have driven many kms out of their way from either end of the access road to the falls. Why didn’t the authorities who had approved the repairs to Nigretta Falls consider the impact and waste of fuel for many tourists over the many months this site has been closed? There are some great bluestone old churches and Victorian style houses with great iron lace work in the township. I wanted to visit Hamilton for it's history/buildings. I love travelling regional Victoria, but... Hamilton turned out to be a very 'gray' place. In comparison to other regional towns I've been too, there is not much to do or see. Also, there are not that many nice places to eat... let alone to shop. Moreover, locals are not welcoming (as far as we experienced). However, Ansett museum is worth a visit. Lakes and waterfalls are beautiful to see and spend time around. The Botanical gardens is a treat especially with its link to the Mlebourne Botanical Gardens and its root stock from Riddells Creek north of Melbourne. Hamilton is a lovely place to visit not too far from the coast (Portland/Warrnambool) and the Grampians. Don't forget to visit the Lemon Myrtle Cafe for some great home cooking as everything is prepared on site even the sausage rolls. Lots of parking in the main street and behind the shops.
