It's right smack in the center of town. Quaint, lovely bar downstairs with big spacious rooms upstairs. The staff were very friendly and accommodating, and the beer was great! I especially loved the sours and the chocolate ale. Bar closes at a certain time, but the staff let us stay abit later, keeping the back door open for us to go up to our rooms. Bathrooms were heated and huge, and the showers had good strong water pressure. Good wifi too.

The studio was clean. warm, comfy, well-equipped and presented. The instructions were easy to follow, and access was a breeze. The only thing I was missing to prepare for a wedding was an iron and a board... and that was found and utilised! Much appreciated :)

Amazing country house with old Colonial vibes. We felt like we were transported back in time to one of those Bridgerton houses. The hosts are such lovely people, we had the best time getting to know them and their pets (Bodie, Charlie and Muddy waters). It was such a relaxing holiday and we highly recommend this place!

One of the nicest places I've stayed in regional Vic - so cosy, clean and beautifully decorated. Mary and Derek are excellent hosts (along with the roos!) and have thought of every detail in setting up The Retreat.

Really comfortable bed, well appointed -- everything we needed was there. We didn't stay for breakfast, but loved the self-service space and it would have been perfect for us if we weren't up and out. The surrounds are beautiful, and it's just tucked away enough to be insulated from street noise. A great sign of thoughtfulness -- I love soap and shampoo dispensers that are labeled so I can actually read them from more than 3cm away. :)

A great place to stay for a visit to the Victorian goldfields area; easy access to all towns in the area and a pleasant town. Some very good dining venues with reasonable prices and some old world charm.

The location was fantastic you could access from both sides...

The location was fantastic you could access from both sides of location, easy access to motorway, it was great to wake up in the morning to total silence not hearing cars, lorries etc. The beds were superb and the cleanliness of the room was well above board. If you are looking for some peace and quiet I'd highly recommended staying here.

Lovely room, great beds, excellent breakfast options. Nice restaurant downstairs. Walking distance from train station and right in the middle of the shopping centre. Bathroom was only separated by a screen, so not very private. Room was upstairs, no elevator.

We had a wedding so we didnt get time to look around, but everyone in the shops, food outlets and beauty outlets we visited were friendly and happy. THere was lots to do, wineries, golf, shops, drives close by

I was there for the Woodend Winter Arts Festival - I...

I was there for the Woodend Winter Arts Festival - I performed in the Choral Marathon, and decided to stay for the weekend and check out the other events. This is a wonderful festival with concerts by world-class musicians, and thought-provoking 'words and ideas' events featuring well-known writers and commentators, as well as public events that made the most of Woodend's streetscape and outdoor spaces. My only regret about the High St Festa is that, since I had performance commitments, I didn't get the chance to explore enough of what was on offer. I would love to come again even if not performing.

Such a pretty town with so much to do locally or a short drive to the neighbouring towns for even more to do an explore. Just over an hour from the city but you well and truly feel like you're out in the countryside
