I am glad I visited Dhaka.

I am glad I visited Dhaka. Everyone I met was friendly even outside of the service industry. I learned first hand a lot about the struggle for independence by visiting the Bangladesh National Museum and Military Museum. Traffic was slow and don't even think about getting a ride in the old town area. Streets are too narrow. Walking the old town was great with lots of interesting shops and food available. Short drive to Panam city a UNESCO site.

Dhaka is not an easy place to visit without some help. I am lucky as i have connections from working here in the past. I’ve had great fun and will always have a place in my heart for the people of Bangladesh. Lot of chatting and eating this week.

Dhaka is a massive, vibrant city that truly surprised me.

Dhaka is a massive, vibrant city that truly surprised me. Yes, it's densely populated—but it’s also full of energy, character, and contrasts. In some parts, you’ll feel like you’re walking through a South Asian version of New York, with towering modern buildings and impressive infrastructure that you might not expect. There are plenty of things to do: scenic riverside walks, peaceful boat rides, and lively streets that offer a glimpse into the city's unique charm. You’ll find spots that make you fall in love with the rhythm of Dhaka. Of course, like any large city, it has its less polished corners. But focus on exploring the nicer areas, and you’ll discover just how beautiful and fascinating Dhaka can be.

Dhaka is a very exhausting city and one gets stuck for hours...

Dhaka is a very exhausting city and one gets stuck for hours in the traffic (3 hours by taxi from Sonargaon, and 2 1/2h from the port to the hotel area of Gulshan 2). Also walking through the Old City is quite a nightmare with all these crowds and bicycle rikshas. Positive are the in general quite friendly people, there is a good choice of food to be had (like at the Food Court of the Unimart Shopping Center in Gulshan 2). From the attractions I liked the National Museum, where I spent quite some time. Worth visiting - and best done with a local tour operator like Nijhoom Tours - is the old capital of Sonargaon on the outskirts of Dhaka. The highlight here is the abandoned Hindu settlement of Panam Nagar and a boat trip to a traffic free river island. Also the City Tour should be done with a local tour company like Nijhoom. Here I enjoyed seeing - from the outside - the National Assembly Hall by architect Louis Kahn, then in the Old City the Lalbagh Fort, the Ahsan Manzil palace, the Armenian Church and the Dhakeshwari Hindu Temple.

Getting around this city is very hard with bottleneck...

Getting around this city is very hard with bottleneck traffic dangerous driving, poor roads, rubbish and trash everywhere, I was at the railway station and people deliberately threw their rubbish on the floor and walked away. The constant barrage of horns honking morning afternoon and night gives little time to sleep. Parts of the city might be OK but my experience is very negative. Get out of the city if you want to enjoy Bangladesh

Togehter with my wife, we had a 4 night stay at this hotel in Dhaka. From the beginning it was a quite warm welcoming atmosphere, completely friendly staff, always there for any questions. Especially some kind complimentaries during our stay were very great and we highly appreciate it. We also had some dinner in their own restaurant, which was a quite, clean and tasty atmosphere. Rooms were also comfortable and spacious. All in all a great and relaxing stay and a very well chosen option in this active city of Dhaka!

This hotel is very comfortable and quiet, which is impressive given its location in the middle of Gulshan 2. The rooms are well-appointed; there is a rooftop pool (relatively quiet!); good in-house restaurants (that will make you something special if you require it!); and excellent staff. The breakfast is the best - the staff go out of their way to remember your preferences (and even hunted down soy milk for me!! Not easy in Dhaka!). I've stayed here twice now and have also booked my next stay there.

The fact that the hotel is next to a Dhaka Meteo station, and yet not next to the road. One has to veer off the street and go a bit deeper into the street, which allows for much quieter stay as Dhaka roads are extremely noisy because of all the incessant honking. The personnel is very friendly and speak good English. We could check in earlier without any issues, which was extremely convenient at the time.

Honestly Dhaka is super chaotic and it was my first time, I even got lost - but the staff were understanding and helpful. I could not fault anything. Very kind, like most people I met in Bangladesh. Bonus points: comfy bed and good wifi! Would recommend.
