We have lived in Wuhan for almost three years; it has so much to offer with the Yangtze River and many lakes; there are many different districts, such as the old concession area of Hankou District, the old City wall in Wuchang District, Food Street and Yellow Crane Tower, and East Lake with its cafes, lakeshore walks boating, cable car, and many other activities, lots to do, and the city has certainly shaken off its unfortunate past, well worth a long weekend or short week. I am a foreign resident of Wuhan, and as it is such a big city, going for a one-night staycation is popular with foreigners in Wuhan and throughout China. There is plenty to see in Wuhan. The Optics Valley area is developing rapidly and has mixed urban and rural developments for leisure; there are many Taoist and Buddist temples worth visiting and walking around the old Concession area, and walking around the many lakes and riverside trails is popular, especially East Lake. It isn't Beijing, Shanghai, Xi'an, Shenzhen, or Guangzhou, to name a few. Wuhan is a real blend of many well-known China cities. A long weekend is strongly recommended. East Lake is fabulous. I love the green road. I biked all day -- no cars on this road. There are many top universities not far from East Lake. You are close to the metro station (5 mins walk) and there is a lake and park nearby. Plenty of food options including a night market behind the hotel which gets very busy. By the lake there are also some really nice bars. The hotel is a very good standard with great breakfast options and all really fresh.
