FAQs about hotels in Aachen

Charming Emperor’s Residence

A political center and favorite residence of Charlemagne, Aachen is located in Germany’s North Rhine-Westphalia region. A spa town since Ancient Roman times, it has some of the hottest springs in Europe. Its Old Town keeps important architectonic jewels, like the Cathedral ordered by Charlemagne in 786, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

With a unique mix of styles, the Cathedral is the final resting place for Charlemagne’s remains, and served as coronation church for 30 German kings and 12 queens. Guesthouses and hotels in Aachen’s historic center are a romantic way of enjoying the city.

The RWTH University is one of the country’s "Universities of Excellence", part of the technologic profile of a city that is regarded as one of the most innovative in Germany. In fact, a large number of Aachen hotels have congress facilities.

It is located 40 miles from Cologne and 24 miles from Maastricht/Aachen Airport. Connections to major European capitals are available from the central train station, while several hotels nearby will help you to avoid the last-minute rush.

Whether you want to relax in the baths or come to town for a lecture, don’t miss the Aachen accommodations deals available on Booking.com!

Aachen is a really beautiful city with lots of interesting history predominantly about Charlemagne. The cathedral is stunning. For English people I would highly recommend taking the English language guided tour. It gets you in to parts of the cathedral not available to other visitors. Book in advance as we found to our dismay that the English tour was booked up for the day so had to take the German one which was a bit of a strain on my rudimentary German

I love the medieval and 19th century buildings in Aachen.

I love the medieval and 19th century buildings in Aachen. Due to the university, the population is young. And there are lots of activities, so that you will rarely feel bored. Mayersche is an excellent bookshop.

I know Aachen well and it is our favourite place to stop over during a long drive from the UK to Austria, and returning. It is full of history with many places of interest and a wide variety of attractions for all ages. It has changed over the decades we have been coming here, so there is sadness as well as delight as changes occur, but that is life too. I would recommend it to anyone who is facing a long journey and seeks a break point because of its location and access for drivers and families, especially pet owners. There is a wide variety of restaurants and parks to revive yur spirits.

    Visiting Aachen was great.

Visiting Aachen was great. Easy to navigate on foot from the hotel near the station. Whilst it was a Sunday there was a selection of shops open. The cathedral was open in the afternoon, the interior was definitely a surprise and quite magnificent. Coffee and cake in the afternoon was a pleasure and there were several options for a beer as well. Aachen was well placed for further travel by train, visited Koln and Liege.

Very pleasant town with important historical landmark of Aachen cathedral (Aachener Dom). "In 1978, Aachen Cathedral was one of the first 12 sites to be listed on the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites, because of its exceptional artistry, architecture, and central importance in the history of the Holy Roman Empire" (Wikipedia). Several other nice and interesting places are there and we were told that it very popular to visit around Christmas.

Little better than standard B&B hotel I would say. Relatively good breakfast with options to choose from. Very friendly personnel. Location is great and calm even it is literally in the old town city centre. The code to enter the room and hotel instead of key or card is perfect for me (I have nothing more to carry then a number in my head :) ).

A great hotel within a short distance of the train station and the city centre. Comfortable bed, super friendly staff and a secure car park with bike storage. Pretty much everything we could need for our stay. B&B hotels have fast become our budget hotel of choice in Europe as you always know what to expect.
