A lovely town , compact and easy to get around.
A lovely town , compact and easy to get around. Lots to see and do and the local community are friendly. Be prepared for busy season with coach tours. We visited in early October and missed the crowds. The Hieronimi wine cellar ( not to be confused with the hotel of the same name), does an excellent 8 glass wine tasting. Cochem is a very pretty town on the moselle river.
Cochem is a very pretty town on the moselle river. The river walking and biking paths are scenic. The one hour river boat tour is a nice way to see the vineyards. The shops are nice. The castle is nice to walk up to and see the views of Cochem. One can rent an ebike to ride along the river pathways or one can jog or walk along the river pathways. Not a lot to do there. Each day, our focus was on leaving and going to other places within reasonable driving distances. It's a good hub to get to other, more interesting places. The best parts about Cochem are: 1).
The best parts about Cochem are: 1). It’s in middle of Moselle River so you have easy access to towns on both sides. 2). You can train to Moselkern to hike Burg Eltz. 3). You can take a boat from Cochem to Beilstein, a must see/do town! 4). You can train to Tra-Tra and bus to Bernkastel- Kues, another lovely must see town. 5). You can drink really good white wine! The worst parts about Cochem are: 1). The town center has mainly touristy shops selling cheap souvenirs. No handcrafted local items. 2). You have to use a reliable source for a good restaurant to eat. 3). You have to look hard for the authentic meat market because it is small and does not open Sundays or Mondays and may close early. 4). Your best authentic bread/sandwich shop is on a side street near train station. 5). Your supermarket is on the perimeter of town. 6).
