We were only there for about 24 hours. Unfortunately, it was a Sunday and most things were closed with the exception of restaurants and a few shops. However, Freiburg im Breisgau did not disappoint. The old town is gorgeous, really characterful. We loved the market square - if you like cheesecake, Stefan's Cheesecakes are definitely a must-have. We particularly enjoyed visiting the church. If you can manage the stairs, the view from the top is amazing, and being able to see the bells close up is great. Walking up Schlossberg (or taking the funicular, though it only goes part-way up) is also a must-do, particularly to go up the Aussichtsturm Schlossberg: terrific views. Lovely city with a nice buzz to it. Good for a dedicated few days or as a base for Black Forest trips. No shortage of varying restaurants. Overall the hotel is clean and offers good value for your money. There is free parking in a lot across the street and just behind the parking lot is a grocery store that makes great sandwiches. The hotel is located outside the city centre but we found it very easy to make our way into Freiburg. Our room faced the main street and even with our windows open we didn't find it too noisy.
