    I visited Sonderborg since I have ancestors who went from there to Australia about 150 years ago. I knew very little about the town and the island of Als and wished to learn more. Having spent five days there I am now delighted to know that it is part of my heritage.

    We visit Sønderborg quite often.

    We visit Sønderborg quite often. It's location at the Baltic Sea and close to the German border make it an attractive location for a day trip or weekend escape. The city center provides lots of shopping options and restaurants. We always enjoy walking along the habor promenade and along the beach.

    Calm, clean small town, with cozy streets, harbour and waterfront. Spacious streets, huge green areas, long walks in the fresh air. There are no crowds and congestion. Easy to drive, no traffic. An excellent place for a relaxing trip of a few days.

    Sønderborg is a good location for some days to explore the town, surrounding nature and the historical monuments. The castle and Dybbøl are both important parts of the history of Denmark. The town houses a top restaurant (Hotel Alsik) and several restaurant with a more normal price range. We enjoyed a dinner in the Mongolian restaurant which has many well prepared dishes (buffet), beer and wine to fair prices. Perhaps not Michelin style, but we enjoyed it very much and several dishes were excellent; my wife loved the crispy vegetables, and I loved the barbecued pork ribs with frites and the fried seafood.

    My favourite Danish city/town!! Good for chilling out, relaxing and enjoying the wonderful harbour, beaches and sea side Very close to other beautiful cities/town like Aabenraa, Grasten, Augustenborg, Nordborg etc. Very close to the German border, so you can easily visit and enjoy Northern Germany

    Very close to city center . Clean rooms , very good breakfast and a large breakfast area with good space around the tables. Very nice with a balcony with a view to the water. No reception at the hotel, everthing is done by phone and code to the outside doors and room. You van buy wine, soda and beer frome af fridge on the second floor

    A good 4-star hotel at the egde of the town. Easy and free parking, only 500 meters to town center, the sea promenade or the castle with museum. We enjoyed the proff reception, the facilities, the quiet night, excellent linen, modern bathroom, very good breakfast.

    Cosy, comfortable, small hotel with spacious rooms, located in a quiet area of town, about 35 minutes walk from the center and the bridge. Breakfast was nice and plentiful. Special thanks to “Bente” at reception for being so helpful. We will be visiting again.

    I didn’t get to use the spa, however the hotel and room was immaculate. I was over the moon with my stay. Breakfast was lovely massive variety and very fresh. The staff were also very friendly.
