FAQs about hotels in Cairo

Resting Place of Pharaohs

Born of an ancient civilisation, Cairo is a vast metropolis centred around the Nile. Its sheer scale can feel overwhelming (especially when flying over it into Cairo Airport), so plan ahead. An obvious starting point are the Giza Pyramids. Although the pharaohs are long gone, the grandeur of their burial pyramids, the Sphinx and Solar Boat are testament to their ambition.

The city’s Egyptian Museum houses a dazzling display of ancient Egyptian artefacts, including finds from Tutankhamun’s tomb in Luxor. Around the corner is Tahrir, a huge square and focal point of the 2011 Egyptian Revolution.

East is Islamic Cairo, home to 9th-century Ibn Tulun Mosque, Al-Azhar Mosque (site of the world’s oldest university), and the Khan el-Khalili souk – remember to haggle. The Citadel, with its elegant Mohammed Ali Pasha Mosque, sits on a hill offering far-reaching city views.

If you want to step out of cultural tours, take a Nile cruise by felucca, spot wildlife in Wadi Digla desert park or visit Egypt’s top theme parks: Dream Park and Magic Land, where you can tour Egyptian TV studios.

Before heading to your Cairo accommodation, sample the local cuisine – the falafel and fuul (bean paste) are delicious. Turkish coffee is a staple and there are hundreds of shisha bars, while major Cairo hotels have bars serving alcohol.

Be ready to be in a crowded busy 3rd world city.

Be ready to be in a crowded busy 3rd world city. Consent beeping horns can be heard all day and night. The low haze ( pollution ) is guaranteed. The crossing of busy 3/4 land roads is a challenge but doable. Only stay at 4/5 star hotel just to have a comfort haven to retreat back into. Don’t get me wrong I love 3rd world countries but not really in the cities. I am blonde fair skinned female in her 50s and I felt comfortable walking the streets with my long pants and tshirt with a light elbow sleeve shirt over the top. The streets paths are uneven and you need comfortable walking shoes and be looking where you’re walking so you don’t trip over. We spent 2 nights in the Giza and flew to Aswan for 3 night Nile Cruise and then 2 nights in Cairo city ( only thing we missed that we wanted to see was Abel Simel but our time schedule didn’t allow for this) We booked everything ourselves and looking back maybe could have a night at Luxor after Nile Cruise to a rest.

Seeing the pyramids, sphinx, GEM...all great experiences and checked off the bucket list. That was really enough for me. I stayed too long and Cairo is not a comfortable place to stay. IMHO, a week is more than enough.

Cairo is a quintessential African city striving to keep pace with modernisation. The people are friendly and always willing to help where they can. Yet, all that fades into the background once you’re captivated by the sight of the Pyramids of Giza, the majesty of the Sphinx, and a dinner cruise on the River Nile. The city is steeped in religious history that left us truly humbled. The artefacts and souvenirs serve as lasting reminders of the unforgettable visit my wife and I shared. Thank you, Egypt.

Incredible city - so much history and culture. Really friendly people. Loved the vibe and it is chaotic, but in the most wonderful of ways. So much to do, see, experience. People are so helpful and friendly. Want to go back.

Arranged at last minute and hotel was very helpful at arranging airport taxi. Room was passable and rather clean. Food ok (breakfast buffet), some items are regularly out though. It is pretty cheap and close to Giza pyramids and those are the only advantages. View from the tarrance is ok, but the whole area looks rather depresing due to lots of poorly treated animals, unfinished constructions, chaotic design and garbage. But that is esentially Egypt.

We really enjoyed this small Airbnb close to the Pyramids (Walking distance) Youssef and his staff took care of us with great hospitality and the airport transfer went very well. We stayed on 3 hotels during our stay in egypt and this is the only one that we had a positive experience. The other 2 are both 5 star hotels so Sequoia even with no stars is 1000 times better than some of the big ones.

The room and bed were comfortable, and we were able to get a good night sleep. Pyramids were within 30 minutes walking distance. Breakfast was the best out of all hotels stayed in egypt, except one 5 star in alexander. Staff were super friendly, and hospitality was 5 stars, felt welcomed, and very much enjoyed our stay. Would definitely recommend staying at the Taj Pyramids View INN.

The location it’s only a few minute away from the pyramids with an incredible roof top view. Also only a few minutes away from the Great Egyptian Museum. The staff is friendly and really try their best to accommodate needs and help. The breakfast was good and generous and the staff upstairs is kind and friendly. The roof top (shared with another hotel) is lovely
