We just spent one night in Padron and were fortunate to be there during the Pascua de Padron. Aside from the must-see sights, we were also able to immerse ourselves with the Padron townsfolk during the festive celebration of the Pascua de Padron. Must see sights are the Convento del Carmen which will give one a good hilltop view of Padron. We were walking the Camino and this hotel was quite near the Way. It was clean, modern, had a nice garden. Breakfast wasn't available, but would be during the summer. Centrally located so we were able to see all the St. James sights in town after resting up. Staff recommended one of the best restaurants we ate in on our trip! I'm sad to say that it was raining so hard the night we were there that we missed all that Padron has to offer. We only visited a local supermarket for some supplies. Very comfortable and super clean! The couch was made as a bed for our daughter. Yummy muffins and coffee for breakfast. Huge terrace! Nice assortment of brochures/ local information and recommendations. Very residential area, enjoyed dining out with locals rather than tourists. It's a nice town with slightly different vibe to the others on the Camino, quite chilled and relaxed. Probably a good place for a rest day as the trails beforehand leave you quite dirty (in poor weather). Probably lots of history here also but didn't get time to explore. I ate at the Camino Portuguese which is a cafe bar/diner. There was fine dining in the town but that doesn always sit well with hiking the next day. Padron is a small and charming town with real character. The tree lined strip by the river is gorgeous, there are beautiful old churches and best of all, a decent selection of very very good restaurants. Self check in as onsite staff only in the earlier part of the day. Lovely dinner - not onsite - they took us to a sister hotel which is very pretty, about 10 mins away (Rosalia) . Nice breakfast. Gave us a slight head start on the final day of the Camino Portuguese as 4 kms out of Padrón itself (along a busy main road). The house is located a bit beyond Padron, so we stopped to have dinner ahead of arriving. One beer led to another and we ended up not getting to the house until 10pm and Santi was more than helpful, offering to drive me back to the town for the carnival. His English is better than he likes to admit, the homemade wine he left was delicious. The house is cute, decorated beautifully and was the nicest stay of our entire trip.
