Lovely walk along the beach front to the quaint old town and castle. Beaches were clean and tidy with beach bars on the sand and umbrella shades / beds for those that want them. So much choice for where to eat / drink. Very family friendly.

I visited this area again after 28 years.

I visited this area again after 28 years. It’s become much more touristy than I remember, which was a bit overwhelming at times (though of course, I’m a tourist too). Still, the beauty and atmosphere of this old walled town remain truly special. Enjoying a quiet morning coffee and croissant at a nearby café was one of those small, perfect moments that reminded me why this place is so special.

We visited in mid-March when Valencia and the nearby town of Benicarlo celebrate Las Fallas. Unfortunately the weather was terrible. We walked up to Peniscola old town and visited Papa Luna castle which crowns the headland. The old town is a maze of narrow streets, lined with tapas bars and restaurants with outdoor seating. Despite the rain, we had a really nice day. The south beach is very sheltered and looks good for swimming, especially with children. We shall return for sure.

    Super town surrounding the castle.

Super town surrounding the castle. Lots of narrow streets full of restaurants and interesting shops. The castle is fabulous. The climb from the beach to the castle is quite do-able even for the oldies. Lots of steps but the grab rails were appreciated.

Some people might compare Peñiscola to Benidorm!

Some people might compare Peñiscola to Benidorm! We think it is nicer! It is very Spanish and not a beer-swilling English cafe in sight! Clearly, during the Summer, it is packed with families and very busy. Parking is very difficult to find and must be paid for between 10:00 - 14:00 and 17:00 21:00. The views from the Castle are wonderful and there are countless places to eat, some are surprisingly very good!

We loved every minute of our stay at La Garita. First of all, the view from our room on the third floor (note there is no elevator) was unbelievable. We ended up sitting out on the deck watching fireworks and having a take-out dinner al fresco. The room itself is well-decorated and very homey. The premises are very clean and well kept. But the view! It truly takes your breath away and the location is so special right in the middle of Peñiscola's old city overlooking the castle, the beaches, and the town beyond.

It`s located on a more quiet street (compared to some others) with nice restaurant nearby. We had a dinner in our hotel's restaurant and it was amazing. The staff is super friendly. They provide beach towels and umbrellas for free, which was very useful. Super nice location to the beach and the old town, also there's a parking within 3min walk. Jacuzzi in the room was great too. Overall it was just great
