The traffic and the motorbikes were the main problem .
The traffic and the motorbikes were the main problem . We chose the south of the island as we knew it was difficult to get about . Our hotel was only 4.5 kilometres to the town but what a nightmare getting there . I took 45 Mins and then nowhere to park , We have both ridden bikes when we were young but we were horrified by the constant weaving in and out of traffic at speed . Lots and Lots of bikes . I can understand why because it is gridlock most of the time . Our Friends had booked a hotel in the middle of Ajaccio having flown in and after three day hired a car from the airport and explored south of the island . They walked every where in the town and took the tourist bus which would have done if we could have got to it . The city is much more lively than Bastia with a nice art museum a historical museum and several beautiful beaches not far (3 miles) from the city center. Unfortunately, I booked an all day boat trip to Bonifacio which was cancelled due to rough seas. I recommend starting your acquaintance with the market, then visiting the cathedral. After getting to know the cathedral, visit Napoleon's house. We loved the industrial feel of the building. And the position of the hotel. Easy to access from the main road near the harbour. The check in time of 12 noon allowed us extra time to look around Ajaccio. The swimming pools at the top were great, we were able to spend time here before check out as it wasn’t till 12noon.
