Located in the Provence of France, the charming city of Arles is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List thanks to its stunning Roman monuments and rich history. This beautiful destination was once a great inspiration for important personalities through time, including the Emperor Constantine I and Vincent van Gogh.
Home to the Roman baths of Constantine, the necropolis of Alyscamps and the Church of St. Trophime, Arles is a perfect example of a city perfectly combining the ancient with the modern. Arles is a big city with the Roman architecture contained in the very centre. It has good restaurants (listed on TripAdvisor). We enjoyed the Art exhibitions and strolling around looking at the architecture. There is some nice shopping to be had and most boutique owners spoke English. We loved the Pizzeria near the Arena (right down the bottom of the hill) and Restaurant La Pergula was reasonably priced with good food. We liked the street cafe (with its large mosaic of Van Gogh inside), opposite the Tourist Information Office (where the people were very helpful). We did a Safari to the Camargue which was well worthwhile. It's difficult to park in the centre of Arles so take your walking shoes!Guest review byJacquelineFrance - 10.0

Wonderful apartment in Arles in a great locaation near the Rhone River and all the sites were within walking distance. The kitchen is very modern and well stocked. The living/dining room were very comforable and well appointed. The owner, Farida, was incredibly helpful throughout our stay with great restaurant and sightseeing recommendations. We had an auto accident prior to our arrival and Farida gave us great assistance in trying to communicate with the rental car company and was able to organize another auto for us. Arles is easy to walk around with a few inclines and cobbled roads. Most places of interest are within minutes of each other. A lot of cafes, restaurants and places to get an ice cream. A lot of independent shops with good quality wares. A delightful place, a lot of charm whether you want to follow in the steps of Van Gogh or not! We enjoyed the food and the people at Le QG, and Jardin des Arts. Getting to Arles by train from Montpellier is easy and just a short walk to get into Arles.Guest review byW-Smith - 8.0

Arles is a very interesting town for lovers of Van Gogh and also antiquities. All the places visited were interesting. Perhaps the Fondation Van Gogh isn’t worth visiting. There are only 2 paintings by Van Gogh and not much information. It is quite pretentious. The garden of the hospital is lovely. Arles is a very nice City. Plenty to see - antiquities and art. The Luma project was particularly good. Lots of good restaurants. Best time to visit is late August/September. Arles is fascinating, not just for the association with...
Arles is fascinating, not just for the association with Vincent van Gough but for the many ancient monuments in the city centre. Unfortunately we were unable to do the city justice as we were passing through but plan to return for a close look. The La Plaza La Papillotte in rue du Docteur Fanton was slightly away from the main tourist area but had outside seating and a breeze. The food was very good and the price was reasonable. The pork cheek with orange was delicious. The staff were patient with our French, which helped. There is 24hr secure paying parking in the parking centre Ville (multi storey) our parking for the evening was 4 euros. There is some free parking but it's a bit of a walk to the centre and as it was very hot we were glad of a shorter walk and a cool car on our return.Guest review byAnonymous

It was an easy 10 minute walk across the bridge to the Arles old town. Arriving at 5pm on a Sunday, we found free all-day parking along the river road within 50m of the hotel.
