The friendliness and helpfulness of the staff, the whole hotel and the quality of it, the food was excellent as is the wine card. Good beds and silent air-conditioning. Clean! Nice swimming pool. As one expects from a 5-star hotel and better.

We recently stayed at the Hotel Cardinal for 5 nights in February 2025. Our stay was excellent, a 10 out of 10. There are so many positives to say about the Hotel Cardinal. First, the location is so good, right behind the Cathedrale St-Andre. But don't worry, the sound of the bells from the tower on the other side don't really bother you. The hotel is steps away from the historic L'Hotel de ville, and a 2 minute walk from the Musee des Beaux Arts. It is very easy to walk from the hotel to many other beautiful and historic sights, and shopping. The tram lines also stop by the cathedrale. The hotel itself, like so much of the old city center, is a very old building that is beautifully restored on the inside. Our sleeping room was a very good size, with a small kitchen, which came in handy. The room was super clean and quiet and intimate. I believe there are only 10 rooms in the Hotel Cardinal. Each room has a name, not a number. The staff is truly extraordinary. In our experience Axel and Bastien were also ready to help us with anything we needed: extra towels, directions to anywhere we wanted to go, arranging a taxi, even getting toast for my wife when she wasn't feeling well. Things you might want to know: Ask the hotel to call a taxi if you need one. We used a taxi to go to the train station (20 Euros) so we didn't have to change tram lines with our bags. If you take an uber, you should know that ubers are not allowed on the small street in front of the hotel, but taxis are allowed. The hotel has a breakfast for extra cost, which we did not have. There is no restaurant in the hotel, but that doesn't matter because there are so many other places just steps away from the front door. Summary: My wife and I highly recommend the Hotel Cardinal for many reasons, its location, its beautiful condition with very good sized rooms, The hotel is very small and quiet and charming. The staff is superior, always with such excellent attention paid.

Everything—location, facilités and staff. Comfortable beds, lovely bathroom with a great shower. And the staff go out of your way to help, like getting me decaf pods and some milk for the Nespresso machine, and a blanket and sheet for the bed, instead of a down coverlet, which is too warm for us.

FAQs about hotels in Bordeaux

A Taste to Suit Everyone’s Palette

Raise your wine glass and toast the beautiful city of Bordeaux on the banks of the Garonne River. Having produced wine since the 8th century, it’s fair to say the second largest wine producer in the world is worth the trip for the vin alone. The city itself has spread outwards, rather than upwards, and the result is a very pretty town center, filled with stone mansions and terraced housing comparable to Paris.

Cultured Bordeaux is filled with museums such as the Museum of Contemporary Art and Musee D'Aquitaine. The streets provide an equally interesting exhibition of fine architecture including the Victory Arch and the Aquitaine Bridge. On the shores of the river lies the Les Chartrons district, which is a blend of ferry boat rides, picturesque views and buzzing nightlife while the bars and cafes in the La Victoire district are frequented by students.

A tour of the famous vineyards is probably on the itinerary and this can be accomplished by visiting the wineries and châteaux privately or as part of a tour. You can also worship the wine gods at the Bordeaux Wine Festival held during the summer.

Visitors can easily make the short trip to the heart of Bordeaux from the Bordeaux-Mérignac Airport. With 70 hotels and bed & breakfasts available, Booking.com allows you to discover the vibrant and friendly heart of the vineyard region.

What Guests Said About Bordeaux:

    The city is extremely diverse.

The city is extremely diverse. The sentence that came to me to describe it is it's a chill French ghetto resting on timeless history - and I mean this in THE best way possible. People are SO diverse, it's like everyone's free to be whoever they wish to be and noone getting into anyone's business about it. At first it seems a bit chaotic but after about half anhour it becomes just lovely really. Historical building are cool, as they are anywhere. My two personal favourites were the Darwin ecosystem and Passage Galerie Bordelaise - spent my last morning at the first and last lunch at the latter. One of the most peaceful, speacial days in when sightseeing.

Bordeaux is a fabulous city to visit for a few days. The architecture is impressive, the streets and squares with pavement cafes and restaurants, the great shopping opportunities, the 'Miroir d'Eau' always with great people-watching, lovely riverside green spaces, the ease of getting around by tram, impressive sculptures... so much to see and do.

Bordeaux city is of sufficient historical interest to...

Bordeaux city is of sufficient historical interest to warrant staying there for 2-3 days, for tourist sights, food, and wine of course. Depending on your interest in wine, you might want to spend longer. We went to one winery near St Emilion, which we also visited, for 6-7 hours on one day, which turned out to be more pleasant than exciting. Rue Sainte Catherine is interesting if a little touristy, but that's what you might expect in most small European cities with a burgeoning population of foreign tourists. We didn't visit the old Nazi submarine pens, now part of an art exposition because of lack of spousal interest but I understand it's quite interesting. Surprisingly the guide for the city tour we bought was a transplant from Ireland, but he was very well versed in the history of the city, and comes highly recommended. Note that one of the tram lines takes you straight from the airport to the cathedral and beyond so it can be a convenient way to travel, depending on where you are staying. There is a restaurant with a transplanted Scotsman as owner and head chef that we quite enjoyed for dinner.

The staff at L'Apparthôtel Particulier Bordeaux was the most lovely welcome to France. Everyone was friendly and warm immediately and throughout our whole stay. The 3 staff members were all women - who carried our very heavy bags up a flight of stairs - and I was impressed and thankful! The quality of the room was out of a dream. Opening the windows and looking outside felt like a dream. We slept well even though we were in such a convenient location -- noise was not a bother. We would absolutely stay here again.

Situated in a really quiet spot down a side street, but within walking distance of Bordeaux City Centre which is gorgeous with lots of bars, restaurants, stunning architecture and history. When we moved into the hotel we were in the midst of a medical emergency with our son who had been admitted to hospital. Every single one of the hotel team made us feel cared for and supported during what was an extremely stressful time for our family, and went above and beyond to help us in any way they could. ,

Lovely hotel enjoyed location it was easy to go out from there. The staff when arrived were great but the lady when was leaving was very hard to understand. I loved pool was surprised that we had to pay for parking as wasn’t mentioned upon arrival. Also think it’s unfair paying tourist tax when I am a resident in France and already pay my taxes. My daughter is french she never pays it in Bordeaux!
