It’s really easy to walk around and there are some nice places to eat and drink. The Saturday indoor food market is great. The outdoor market has a food stall cooking paella, couscous and cassoulet at reasonable prices (if you have the means to reheat food). The eglise near the apartment is impressive even if you’re not religious. We were in Cambrai to watch a sports event and stayed 2 nights. We were very lucky to see the Olympic Torch relay at the same time. The city is clean, people are friendly and most places had someone who could speak English to assist us. If you are interested in WW1 history then Cambrai makes a good base. We had no such interest and I didn't see anything in Cambrai that would make me want to spend more than a night there. Plenty of hot water, a comfy bed and a peaceful nights sleep. Breakfast was an additional €6 and included fresh baguettes, good coffee, cereals, yoghurt, fruit juice, jams, cakes and toast. The hotel is on an industrial estate but well placed for a nearby shopping complex which included an extensive supermarket and fast food outlets.
