FAQs about hotels in Clermont-Ferrand

Auvergne Charm

Surrounded by the Chaîne des Puys volcanoes and Massif Central forests, Clermont-Ferrand is one of the oldest towns in France. It is home to a rich Gaul legacy, and was the starting point of the 1st Crusade to Jerusalem in 1095. Its name was a consequence of the fusion between the bishop-ruled town of ‘Clermont’ and its neighbour ‘Montferrand’, created by the Auvergne counts to counterbalance the clergy.

The Chaîne des Puys is approximately 10 km from the city and is composed of several volcanic cones and domes, with the Puy de Dôme as its highest point. Guesthouses, B&Bs and rural accommodation in Clermont-Ferrand’s outskirts allow you to enjoy these natural surroundings.

Its charming historic centre includes the Gothic masterpiece of the Cathédrale Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption. The popular Place de Jaude has the statue of the Gaul hero Vercingetorix, sculpted by Frédéric Bartholdi, creator of the Statue of Liberty.

The city is also famous for the Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival. Full of trendy shops, busy terraces, and great restaurants, the city has a laidback rhythm. Take advantage of the Clermont-Ferrand hotel deals available on Booking.com and enjoy this charming Auvergne city.

Clermont-Ferrand was a really enjoyable place to visit.

Clermont-Ferrand was a really enjoyable place to visit. I especially liked how the city blends natural beauty with a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere. Getting around the city was pretty straightforward. When it came to food, we mostly tried local spots we came across while walking around, and overall, the food scene felt very authentic and accessible. There were also lots of parks and open spaces where he could run around and play. Overall, it’s a great city for a relaxed family trip with a good mix of nature, culture, and kid-friendly activities.

We were not there to do any sight-seeing - just to get a good night’s rest to break a long journey. It seems there are plenty of interesting places to visit around Clermont Ferrand but that was not our purpose on this occasion.

I imagined a much more sombre city, more industrial, instead it has a great historical centre with stunning vistas on Mont Doré mountain, very lively, hidden gems. Friendly atmosphere. Good and affordable food & drink, not so easy tot find a place to have a quick lunch other than the standard hamburger, but that's a problem in France nowadays anyway. Bring on the quiche and the omelette! Good tramway system, easy connection to a large, modern museum, Collection however is not so hot, although I love the Vercingetorix room and the equestrian statue on the main square. .

The main attractions of this town are the surrounding natural wonders. The volcanoes of the Puy de Dome chain are amazing and worth a visit every season. You can do many hikes and have a plan everyday for at least one week. On the other hand the Clermont-Ferrand city itself has very little to offer in terms of beautiful architecture and landmarks. There are a couple of historical lava sone churches and buildings as well as a Medieval neighborhood. If you are not into that you won't fine much interesting stuff. Shops as well as restaurants are ok, nothing special or outstanding.

Like most French towns, the old centre is a lovely place to be on a warm evening. Big main square, lots of cafes and restaurants, traffic free for the most part. But it's an industrial city so you have pick your venues carefully.

Interesting city with fine old buildings and a lot of arty shops. Museum showing how important it was as a settlement from Stone Age times. Lovely vibrant square lined with cafes and restaurants. Chardonnay restaurant was superb.

We arrived to Clermont Ferrand by train and it was really easy to get to our accommodation (just 3 stops by bus). The place is clean and have everything you need. The lady at the reception desk was really nice. Moreover, there is a tram stop by the building so in a while you are in the centre. The place was calm. I highly recommend. Great value for money.

I generally stay at an IBIS hotel when traveling through France and I need a one-night stopover. The location is usually convenient and free parking is available. This one also has a foodcourt within walking distance where I went to see the Euro2024 football games since
