The apartment is spacious and located opposite the train station which was really convenient. The old town is 1km away but a flat walk. And who wants to lug their suitcase over cobblestones? The Alsace region is absolutely gorgeous, and Colmar was a great location for us to visit by train the other picture postcard villages like Eguisheim, Kaysersberg, Riquewihr and there are other villages that we didn't have the time to visit. Historic Colmar is beautiful, you will find the usual tourist train that is worth using early in your trip because it gives you a feel for the whole area, covering parts you might otherwise miss and highlighting those spots you definitely want to visit in depth. Eating out is excellent with a host of bars and restaurants. While we were there a flea market was running in the Place de la Cathedrale which was typically of interest. An absolutely delightful city to visit! Stunning river views and picturesque side streets make it a joy to explore on foot. The local cuisine is fantastic and definitely worth trying. Amazing old town…We wandered and wandered, discovering new things every time. Please don’t miss the Dominican church and the wonderful altar piece by Mathias Schoene-something!!!! Would have loved a historical museum…so much to find out about the history, the winemaking, Hansi and the Battle of Colmar, but we had to sort of piece it together. Colmar is a stunning and vibrant town.
Colmar is a stunning and vibrant town. Its colourful half-timbered houses, cobbed street and picturesque canals make it a joy to explore. It was very easy to navigate on foot, with so many lovely corners and spot to take a photo. The food is delicious, with some Alsatian restaurant serving regional specialities like tarte flambee' and choucroute.
