We liked everything about the hotel. We have stayed here 2 a year for the last 3 years. The staff are always pleasant and friendly. If we need help they would help us. The rooms are always clean and fresh. Warm in the winter and cool in the summer. The bed is comfortable and clean. The bathroom is very clean and the shower is great.

Beautifully restored house, practically in the city centre, extremely helpful and nice host. If we get back to Laon, will stay again in your nice house. Did not take breakfast as we were exhausted, but it looked good as well. I highly recommend.

Our visit was a Saturday in August, the main streets were decorated with balloons and umbrellas, the pavements were full of restaurants/cafes tables and chairs, very festive. A bonus was the use of old fashioned wooden games with instructions, unfortunately only in French. The cathedral was a disappointment, very large, very beautiful, half empty and all information posters in French only, could do better!

It's walkabilty, despite the hills. Glorious views. The Cathedral and Knights Templar chapel were well maintained, interesting and beautiful. Loved the ports and other historic sites, and there was free entry.

The town has history dating back thousands of years and is...

The town has history dating back thousands of years and is documented from the time of the Romans; the character of the town is enhanced from its elevated position, with the walled perimeter, dense buildings, and cathedral, standing tall in otherwise flat countryside. There's a real sense of arrival as you climb up to your final destination. We've visited three times, twice in winter as a long drive stopover, and once in the summer. The cobbled streets, old buildings, cafes, shops, bars, restaurants, and sites are varied and interesting. It's a place that's full of character and well worth a visit for a day or two, maybe longer. We particularly like staying in the Hôtel de la Bannière de France in the heart of the old centre, assuming we have some time to appreciate the visit. There are other cheaper options in the lower town for travellers who just want a rapid overnight pit stop.

I more or less put a pin in a map to find a place to stay on the way to the Alps from Calais. Laon was a very pleasant surprise, with lots of interesting buildings including the exceptional cathedral. I wish we had been staying for a few days and it would be a lovely romantic place for a short break.

Laon was such a pleasant surprise.

Laon was such a pleasant surprise. The Office of Tourism has a free downloadable app that really worked well; it described the Cathedral with detail that we would never have found on our own as well as offering several loops around the city. We also were impressed with the vast history of this town. It obviously was an important community in the 12th and 13th century. It's location atop a plateau allowed for breathtaking views across the countryside.

Pretty historic town with lovely buildings, beautiful cathedral and lots to explore. Range of cafes and restaurants but seem to close early. Car parking in the centre is limited to one and a half hours and you need to purchase a blue disk from the tabac or tourist office next to the cathedral parking outside the town walls is free and, consequently, tricky to find a space. Fromagerie des Remparts has gorgeous meats, cheeses and wine with outside seating.

Laon is a magical medieval town in a beautiful location with a cathedral and fabulous views and walks There are also some great bars and restaurants. Chambres Boufflet is situated in a central location in a historical building with quirky features The rooms are fairly basic but perfectly adequate and each room has an ensuite with a bath tub I love taking a bath so this is a huge draw for me Most rooms have 3 beds and I have stayed frequently as a stopover between my home in London and central France It is great value for money

The hotel is 300 yrs old and in the city walls. Owners were really freindly and helpful. They could not have helped us more. Location was really good to visit the cathedral and other sites which were in easy walking distance. Breakfast was great. Accommodation was clean. Bed was very comfy. Hotel had great charactor. On the Francegena pilgrim walk which was why we went. The hotel helped us to arrange luggage transport for us along the route.
