We were greeted warmly by the girl on the front desk (unfortunately I didn’t take note of her name, but she spoke 3 languages). She was very helpful and was able to suggest a few places to eat if we required this information. We went to one of the suggestions and we had a very enjoyable meal in the old part of the town. She talked us through a proffered map, which was very useful and helpful.

We have a family room which was huge! really great room, hotel itself and as the best we stayed in throughout our road trip around France. Staff were lovely and friendly. we reserved a parking spot which was tricky to find, you almost have to block the road slightly and run into reception for them to open the shutters. we managed to get the first spot and we're able to turn around but the car park only holds about 5 cars and I think it'd be difficult to exit or turn around if it's full but we were lucky. unfortunately I took ill that day so was not able to venture out to Le Mans other than the big sign outside the train station opposite hotel

Great location in the centre of Le Mans with a secure underground car park. We arrived on a Friday evening and found the young receptionist most welcoming. Although she was apparently a new member of staff you would not have known as she had everything under control, appeared to be running the place by herself and was extremely polite and proficient - and her English was faultless which made things a complete breeze. The hotel has a grand entrance hall and lifts to all floors. The rooms were large, comfortable and well equipped. The TV didn’t have any English speaking channels programmed in but that just made a visit to the bar with my friends all the more appealing. The receptionist was now acting in the capacity of bar keeper and was a good host. Continental breakfast in the morning was extremely good and set me up for the day. All in all a great place to stay and the hotel I shall keep in mind and book early when I eventually do get round to attending the Le Mans 24 Hour race.

The Stuff of Legends

Even though tranquil Le Mans has a well-preserved medieval centre and virtually intact Gallo-Roman walls, it is most famous for its iconic 24-hour race. Motorsports lovers the world over descend for a day (and night) of non-stop racing on the Circuit de la Sarthe.

This legendary track encompasses parts of the permanent Bugatti Circuit, but also spills out onto normal roads which get shut for the occasion. One local restaurant is even placed right by a straight which cars hurtle down at top speed before braking for the bend near the Golf des 4 Heures club in Mulsanne.

Also within the circuit are the Antarès events venue and La Sarthe Automobile Museum, open even when there is no racing. The name of the latter refers to the Sarthe River running through the city centre. Colourful, half-timbered buildings line its historic banks, and steps climb gentle hills in the old town.

More charming houses fill the streets surrounding impressive St Julian's Cathedral, started in the 11th century. The city history is detailed in the nearby Museum of Queen Bérengère, and the town hall is in part of the former Palace of the Counts of Maine.

    The Le Mans museum and circuit was the only place we visited but that was great fun. From driving through it had maxed neighbourhoods and there is significant road works happening at the moment which causes lots of diversions.

    Le Mans is somewhat dull.

    Le Mans is somewhat dull. The cathedral is impressive but the old town, compared to others I have visited, is rather underwhelming. We stayed there whilst travelling down, and then back up, France. That was enough. I wouldn't return and wouldn't recommend it to friends. Unless you plan to go for the Le Mans 24 - look elsewhere; there are much prettier places.

    Was there for a bucket list. The 24 Hours of Lemans. The town quaint and charming looking. Did not explore . Driving was fairly easy. Not as crazy as Paris. We did see the Effiel Tower at night which was incredible.

    Le Mans is a relatively small town with one of the most wonderful race tracks in the world (I have been at other great tracks, like Spa, COTA, Monza, Bathurst, and others) and the overall experience during the Le Mans Classic is incredible. I recommend it highly.

    We went to the 24 hours of Le Mans. It was fantastic. There was so much on offer at the track. The public transport was easy to use and the people were happy to help. The weather was fantastic. We had a great experience and looking forward to returning. Most people spoke English. We ate mainly at the food stalls at the track. Make sure to check the opening times of businesses for the days you are in Le Mans as the hours were different to home.

We have stayed for two nights on our way to our "proper" holiday mainly to see the 24h Le Mans circuit but Sabrina gave us helpful recommendations for our stay (food,places to visit etc).
