As I wrote in the review of the apartment: Great location and perfect size for a couple. Until the owners address the sewer gas issue, no one should stay there. Ile St Louis is filled with restaurants and cute shops. There are fruit/vegetable shops all around and small grocery stores also. The island is quiet at night. Major attractions are very close. The transformation of Norte Dame is worth the wait to get in. I was there for a series of events whilst my spouse visited the museums etc. Prepuchased timed entry tickets meant shorter queues but there is no attempt to allow entry at the specified time or apparently prioritise these visitors over those who had not reserved a visitor slot. I had taken the precaution of downloading the RATP app on to my phone and preloading tickets which worked reasonably well but having to purchased tickets in advance lacked the flexibility of cities which use contactless cards/smartphones without deciding in advance whether travel will be by train, metro, tram or bus. Easy to take the train in from Germany and my limited use of the Metro was good, especially after using the Bonjour RAPT app for tickets. Streets clean and it has that vibe only Paris can have. Kept my plans focused on venues near hotel so it was easy to walk - usually scored 10,000 steps a day without trying. Busy on a Saturday with good fall weather - crowded at many places and always having to dodge around small queues of people who just stop in the middle of the sidewalk to talk/smoke or those who walk while texting - impaired walkers. Only negative venue experience was stopping in a live music/piano bar after the jazz club for a little more music and a nightcap - 38e for one double scotch (blended). Love Paris. I come so often, I know what I want to see.
Love Paris. I come so often, I know what I want to see. My favorites are the Sacre Coeur, Montmartre area, Parc de Luxemberg, Quartier Latin. The cafes are everywhere and people watching is fun. The monuments of Paris are just unique and takes some effort to get around them. As an 80 year old still did it no problem an investment in a a great pair of walking boots is a must as the cobblestone walking can be tiring at the end of the day. We used the supermarkets for most of our food as we were going on a road trip to Normandy so felt we would experience the French food at a more reasonable price. Paris was lovely, the Metro was very clean and fairly easy to use. Prices are pretty much the same as in London. If you are buying anything over £100, such as clothes or shoes, don't forget to reclaim the tax on your departure.
