Ennerdale Water and West Water are just fabulous places to visit with absolutely stunning views. The brewery is fabulous and serves hearty portions of food coupled with some very nice locally brewed beers. Do not rely on public transport, it is very limited. Ennerdale Water is great for a day out with a picnic - you can choose from a variety of walks or just sit by the lake enjoying the stunning views and crystal clear water. West Water is a fabulous day out with a great hotel/pub that serves food and a little shop. The Fairy pools are worth the walk.

Arlecdon is a small quiet village but St Bees is not far away on the coast with a nice beach and it's near to the start of the Coast to Coast Walk. Lowes Water and Ennerdale Water are nearby, very scenic with some nice walks. Keswick is not far away with lots going on but it is a busy place.

It’s a quiet place with everything you need-no need to take an iron or hair dryer-there was a smart tv in one bedroom-we let ourselves in and out-didn’t see a soul which I liked-the cottage was very clean. I slept like a log. The garden was bit tired, the shower I couldn’t get to work but hubby did and said water pressure not great-nice bath though.Bathroom downstairs, parking on road.Lovely surroundings. Only thing I didn’t like was the bibles in bedroom drawers-not our thing. Plenty walks on doorstep. We did drive to Whitehaven for Tesco-area very depressed and run down, needs some investment-spent lovely day in Buttermere-a 40 min drive away. We ate in Buttermere-lots lovely tea rooms. I’d avoid Whitehaven .

The Location is good for visiting and walking around the local area. Unfortunately for us the weather was awful but we still had good visits to Cockermouth and Whitehaven. The Hound Inn is 100 yards up the road is a lovely pub but has limited opening hours and they are fearful for their future. The immediate area is very run down but we found it very peaceful at night. We had meals at our accommodation so didn't eat out.
