A charming and quiet village, full of honey coloured cottages and little nooks and crannies. A lovely craft shop and a couple of bakeries and general stores. Good eating choices for day and evening.

    Nice place, 3 pubs.

Nice place, 3 pubs. We went in September so one pub open all the time. One pub closed at 2pm reopened about 4ish. The other at the top of the village we only went in the once and informed they only did food 2 evenings a week? One shop for essentials and one cafe with 3 tables on the road side. A gift type shop with pictures etc. There were short car journeys to other areas of North Yorkshire from Askrigg. There was a bus service from the village. There were quite a few walkers.

Askrigg is an excellent base for touring the magnificent Yorkshire Dales. Roads over the hills to Swaledale are spectacular and rather narrow in parts (but well worth the occasional exciting meetings with traffic heading in the opposite direction). Tourist sites in Wensleydale are more easily accessed on wider roads so Hawes, Aysgarth and Leyburn visits are "a doddle."

One of the most appealing villages in the Yorkshire Dales.

One of the most appealing villages in the Yorkshire Dales. Although Askrigg is steeped in history and has hosted the famous All Creatures Great and Small programme, it does also boast 3 good quality but very different pubs which allow an enjoyable mini pub crawl if you like that sort of thing!

The village has a lot of character and offers much countryside around too. We used the cafe, the shop, and had drinks in the pub - sadly not all of them! The people are lovely and welcoming, and it was interesting visiting the church. We used the Little White Bus to get around, which was very easy in both directions, visiting Leyburn and Hawes as well as Bolton Castle and the Aysgarth Falls. All within a reasonable distance to travel on the bus. If you are lucky, you will get a private tour with a driver who knows it all!!

It is a small place but with a few good shops and a nice café. The locals seemed friendly. The church spire had been recently painted which reached the national news and it was good to have a walk around the church to see what the fuss was about.

A complete home from home. Such a cosy cottage and great location. Some lovely walks from the cottage into the beautiful countryside. Askrigg also has 3 great pubs. We had an amazing Sunday Lunch in the Middle House... one I will be dreaming of for years to come! Also good live music in the King's Head. Not far from Hawes which has some lovely boutique shops, and can't miss going to the Wensleydale Creamery, where you can sample their cheeses before you buy! Would definitely recommend this cottage and one we would go back to stay in.

Amazing place to stay, with a warm welcome from the owners. Both very much outdoor people so just ask for the best places to visit. The room was clean comfortable, quiet and obviously modernised recently. Looked very smart as good if not better than many hotels. Asked if I was going to have a cuppa in the room and promptly gave me fresh milk, non of that UHT stuff. I have to mention the breakfast as that is top notch as well, all in all a great place to stay And I can’t wait to go back.

The room was delightful - spacious, nicely furnished, spotlessly clean and very comfortable. We chose the option of a private sitting room for a very modest additional amount, and this provided a large TV, sofa and armchair, table and chairs, and kitchenette with fridge and microwave. The owners were friendly and welcoming, and the breakfasts were superb. Fantastic value. The location is great for touring the dales and there are many good walks from Askrigg.

Love the location of the hotel. Breakfast was outstanding with Hammonds sausages, so much so we visited Hammonds shop in Bainbridge and bought some. We weren't very hungry at dinner so just had starter and shared a dessert but what we had was excellent. The room no. 5 was spacious and comfortable with plenty of wardrobe space. My wife is a light sleeper so the road noise disturbed her and next time we would request a room at the back of the hotel.

Brook House is located in the heart of Askrigg making it ideal for the three pubs, the general store and the cafe. It has everything you need to make your stay special, from a welcome basket to wonderfully plump and soft towels. Brook House is an absolute gem in a beautiful village.
