From Brunel to Banksy!
Britain’s 4th most popular visitor destination, Bristol boasts Brunel’s magnificent Clifton Suspension Bridge spanning the River Avon. More Brunel handiwork is in the harbour where his SS Great Britain steamship is moored. Pirate walks here detail the city’s underground naval history.
Further north in Clifton is the world’s oldest zoo outside a capital city. Other Bristol attractions include At-Bristol Museum and the Grade I-listed Corn Exchange with its 4 "nails" outside where money changed hands. Also worth a visit is St Nicholas Market, in a Georgian square home to several bars and a Slow Food Market on the 1st Sunday of every month. Other Bristol shopping options include shopping centres at Cabot Circus, and Cribbs Causeway on the outskirts.
As a student city, Bristol really comes to life after dark. The live music scene here is fantastic and has given way to several internationally known bands, but for something more alternative head to Eastside.
Another option for alternative-seekers is the work of hometown street artists Banksy. Just like Booking.com’s Bristol accommodation, his work is spread throughout this fabulous city.
This Gateway to the West Country is served by Bristol Airport and Temple Meads train station. The old Bristol to Bath railway line is now a cycle route and makes a great day trip.

Excellent food great places to visit loved the heritage harbour area and the Arnolfini Gallery. We were there for the women’s rugby transport back from the game to the city was poor. The Clifton Bristol suspension bridge and the Avon gorge is amazing to visit. We also did the cave. I recommend you to watch your head in the tight space. The Bristol Cathedral was beautiful. Bristol is a very vibrant city, perfect if you are a foodie as there are a lot of really good places to eat. If you're lucky with the weather it's great to sit on the harbourside and enjoy a drink. The 'Great Western' ship (built by Brunel) was interesting). The 'Concorde Museum' was great! The last Concorde that flew.! I went over to the coast to Portishead and was amazed by the 10 meter tidal range. Bristol is a compact and a pleasant city, easy to get to the attractions from the apartment. Clifton village/arcade is worth a visit and off course the Brunel suspension bridge is a must see. Lots to do with older children.
Lots to do with older children. We the curious and wake the Tiger were well worth the trip down to Bristol. I would have liked to explore the Banksy graffiti. Saw loads of regular graffiti which did make the area seem scruffy. It was everywhere. Some amazing architecture. Little gems kept jumping out. We had lounge access which was excellent - complimentary soft drinks during the day and beer/wine between 5:30-7:30pm plus some canapé food items. Great location for Bristol city centre and right next door to an NCP car park, for which the hotel gives discounted overnight parking. The stairwells are a little tiered and could do with sprucing up! (We only used the stairs once when the lift was busy). The bar food was delicious as was the breakfast.
