The hotel was walking distance from both lakes. Although Buttermere is a very busy spot with tourists we found it peaceful, pleasant and safe to walk around. There were a lot of dog walkers having a great time. WiFi and mobile phone signal is poor and intermittent but it was good to be off line for a few hours. Excellent service from the staff, and my son and I loved the view of Lake Buttermere from the bedroom window. It sounds like a small thing but I also appreciated the fact you can open the window quite wide and let in lots of fresh air, as that is not always possible in many (quite stuffy) hotel rooms now.
