Darlington is a small village but a good location and easy to get too. Very pretty and there are loads of places to visit nearby if you like the outdoors, history, and walking. We have visited Anglers Nature Reserve, Pugneys Country Park. We did want to visit Nostell Priory which is National Trust but high winds put an end to that. We visited Sandal Castle, the site of the Battle of Wakefield, and there is a shopping outlet called Escape with restaurants not far, about 20mins by car. An excellent location for travellers on the A1 and easy to find. Very helpful staff. The restaurant was very popular with families, but our menu choices was not as well cooked as I would have liked and the breakfast was poorly cooked, but this is a personal view. The whole place looked tired and Greene King need to take more care of its inns, this is the second time we have stayed in one and the hot water boiler has failed and there has been no hot water.Guest review byAlanUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Darrington is a small well to do village near Pontefract.
Darrington is a small well to do village near Pontefract. Bus service is minimal. Lots of big houses and well tended lawns. There are two pubs and a small general store. The hotel was right next to the A1M but had little if any noise from it. It was ideal to break up the journey further north for a funeral & then the return journey. Bed was very comfortable and large, staff were very welcoming and friendly, having a pub attached gave a great choice for evening meals and breakfast.
