Dolgellau is a really lovely place and it retains its character with all the original stone buildings. It has everything that you need for a holiday trip with nice cafes and pubs. There is a community annual newspaper available listing and describing a variety of hikes. I personally took the Precipice trail, a two hour easy to moderate trail, only about 4 km from town, with it's own courtesy carpark and toilets. Minimum elevation change with scenic views. Would highly recommend the Stag Inn and Royal Ship hotel for food and drink. The Torrent Walk hotel was also a favorite.Guest review byCraig - 10.0

Dolgellau is an old market town which has never been rich ... it's location right on the southern edge of the National Park isn't doing much to improve this. BUT the small town centre is a warren of charming old buildings and as new businesses arrive to replace those that have closed or are clearly struggling I genuinely believe this place could become a humming tourist spot. Dolgellau is a nice small town in a beautiful area, ideal for long walking or cycling holidays. The Mawddach Trail to Barmouth is mostly excellent with stunning views, except for one section after leaving Dolgellau where the path was either non-existent or very hard to find. The owners couldn't do enough to make our stay , relaxing and enjoyable. Fresh cup of tea in the lounge when we arrived and fantastic breakfast 😋 Would highly recommend Aber Cottage and I'd stay again next time we find ourselves near Dolgellau.
