An amazing historical city that is easily accessible by foot. Great food and ales. The Royal Mile is a great place to wander about but you really need to explore the rest of the city. Great City. The castle is a must see. Lots of different buildings, plenty of information, and fantastic views of the city. Went on two open-topped bus trips. One around the city - would highly recommend the red bus tour. Also did the blue bus one that went past the Royal Yacht Britannia. We got off and bought tickets for the tour (you get a discount by showing your tour bus ticket). So much to see! We needed longer but had to get back for a commitment. Definitely need more than a couple of days to see all of the top attractions on the Royal Mile and the National Museum of Scotland. There’s many things to do so I’d really recommend following your own interests rather than following a tick box of must-see destinations. There are several bus tours which are a great way of seeing the castle, Arthur’s Seat and other highlights. We were most interested in art, so enjoyed getting another bus to Modern One and Two, and a train to the V&A at Dundee which was fantastic. Edinburgh is a must see. My granddaughter saw everything! We could walk everywhere once we go to the city center. We toured the Castle, Palace, Hiked Arthur's Seat, ate at Sheep Head Inn in Duddingston, Museum & Art Museum were great & free. Food was great everywhere. Bus & train system is easy to use.
