I had never been to Glasgow before and loved it: the monumental architecture is amazing. We spent 3 nights there in October giving us 2 full days; you need at least that to see the main city. The first day we walked to the "West End" to visit Kelvingrove Gallery and the Hunterian Gallery with The Mackintosh House. We took a scenic route there-probably about 90mins and a more direct route back to the hotel in West George Street, probably half the time. The second day we did the "East End" visiting the Cathedral, the Museum of Religion and the Necropolis and then walked to the river. Timing much as before. I thoroughly recommend the Willow Tea Rooms in Buchanan Street both for breakfast and High Tea-lovely people and food and very pretty rooms and The Last Book Store in Hope Street for Tapas. Arrived by train at Central station, two Taxi-drivers told us they did not know the Apex Hotel which was only a few hundred yards away. I suspect they did not want a short booking. We decided to walk. As two eighty year olds with suitcases after a long journey from Essex, this was exhausting! I’m from Glasgow but haven’t lived there for many years. Great parks, great shops. Always something going on. Amazing pubs everywhere. Some with traditional musicians and theatre sessions (Oran Mor for “a play, a pie and a pint) Glasgow has a buzz of energy. Centuries of fascinating history, stories, legends.
