Hemel isn’t a nice as we thought it would be. Town centre very scruffy & full of takeaway shops & fast food outlets. Traffic was hideous with a very dodgy 6 mini roundabout - roundabout! The ambience was great, breakfast lovely, but the staff didn't know what a bloody Mary cocktail is at the bar. The cleaning of the rooms, was also not completely great, but staff were fantastic. The walk along the canal and the beautiful marina are a must and Sainsbury’s is a gem min walk down the road or canal path. The train station at Aspley is not brilliant would recommend booking g tickets online before stay as machines were broken and station is not manned. The receptionist gentleman even was sensitive about not mentioning Harry Potter Studios to my daughter (just in case it was a surprise for her). All the staff were cheerful and nice. The facilities also are great. The breakfast was so good and the location of the restaurant is great too. Lovely conservatory area. The room was very nice and comfortable. The Wifi was great. Great that the station was literally across the road. After a couple of long days out it was also brilliant that there were nice places to eat a very short walk from the hotel and a supermarket just round the corner. Staff were all really friendly. It wasn’t the newest or best equipped in terms of toiletries but do we really need lots of little plastic bottles that get thrown away! However the room was very clean and well kept and the bed comfortable. Despite being on a main road the evening was quiet. The hotel has extensive grounds which is perfect if staying with a pet.
