We had dinner the first night at the local pub, The George...
We had dinner the first night at the local pub, The George and Dragon, which is 10 min's walk from the property. The meals were fairly priced and quality good. The pub is popular during the day with walkers and the menu is very traditional, with a nod to the 70's and 80's. Both host and staff are very welcoming. Saturday we went walking, which was a little waterlogged around the river following a few days of heavy rain. But the South Downs Way is very close which was much drier with well maintain paths and views across the Arun valley that are not to be missed. Saturday evening we ate at the Boathouse. A small family restaurant on the river in Houghton adjacent to the Bridge Pub. The service and quality of both the food and wines were exceptional, within a limited menu. Thoroughly recommended, although we were told the Bridge was very popular by the owner. However, unless you're visiting in the summer on a dry evening when you can walk along the river bank into the village, a car is required for the short journey down the hill due to there being no pedestrian walk way along the roadside.Guest review byMarkUnited Kingdom
