FAQs about hotels in Manchester

The Capital of Northern England

With an industrial past and a modern outlook, the complex fabric of Manchester is interlaced with interesting museums, English pubs and shopping centers.

Dash straight into the luxurious Selfridges and Triangle departments stores before checking out the old-English charm of the Shambles.

Manchester wouldn't be the same without its 2 famous football clubs and fans can go wild at either of the Old Trafford or City of Manchester Stadiums. Music fans will adore the many shows performed at the Manchester Arena, the largest of its type in Europe, and the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra.

The cultural foundations of this predominantly red-brick city are on display at the Manchester Museum and the People’s History Museum. If art is you preference, the extensive pre-Raphaelite collection at the Manchester Art Gallery is a sight to behold.

I came to see Lady Gaga perform at Co-Op Live on Wednesday...

I came to see Lady Gaga perform at Co-Op Live on Wednesday 8th October 2025, a new arena in the city. If there's an event on there, the arena is very well connected to the rest of the city via the trams. Make sure to check out The Northern Quarter, it's an area full of independent bars, restaurants and shops. Vintage shops? They've got them. Afflecks is another personal highlight. Like your vinyl? Lots of vinyl record shops there. Street art - it's there. I'd love to try a workshop at The Manchester Craft and Design Centre next time. Make sure you eat and drink at the many independent restaurants dotted around the city, you've got all of the national chains back in your hometown. I found the tram system to be a true joy - you simply tap in and out as you go and the compact city centre is very walkable. I felt very safe walking around after dark, but being mindful of my surroundings of course. You will see the worker bee around a lot, it's a symbol of the city's industrial past and a huge part of its identity. If you are a football fan, then you do need to go and do a stadium tour of the two big teams of the city. If you're a member of the LGBTQIA+ community like myself, it's a city that is very welcoming and you can be yourself there. Mancunians are very very friendly, fiercely proud of their city and you can see why.

    Not a fan of Manchester.

Not a fan of Manchester. It seems deprived of personality - people in general rude - but that's maybe most city folk. Not a clean place to visit - alot of graffiti. The Co Op stadium is in the middle of nowhere so had to uber there and back from the main areas.

Busy city, but we always find it easy to get where we want to be, either by walking, bus or tram. Plenty to see and do from shopping to sightseeing. People are usually friendly, especially in the places we visit, always seem happy to help with questions etc. This visit was for a gig at the Bridgewater Hall, a new venue for us, what a wonderful place it is for music. I finally came across the Emmeline Pankhurst statue too in St Peter’s Square. We also spent some time in Aflecks, one of my favourite places to visit, which is a cornucopia of independent, eclectic shops, be prepared to spend some time wandering around, as there are many small businesses spread over the three floors.

I stayed at Wilde Aparthotels Manchester City Centre while in town for an Oasis concert (of course!), and overall had a great experience. The location is excellent – close to all major train and bus stations, which made getting around super easy. The hotel itself is clean, beautifully designed, and the staff were friendly and helpful. One highlight was the bed – it was incredibly comfortable, one of the best I’ve slept in! Other than that, everything was great – I’d still recommend it and would consider staying here again!

OX is a basic hotel, a role it fulfils well. As long as you expect no more than that you will not be disappointed. It is close to the centre of Eccles and both the rail and tram/bus terminals. As a less expensive option to Manchester City Centre hotels it is fine
