FAQs about hotels in Oxford

City of Dreaming Spires

Featuring a magnificent academic heritage, Oxford is a beautiful city where Gothic spires intermingle with medieval colleges. The home to England’s oldest university, most of the 38 unique colleges are sadly only viewable from the outside. Two that you can visit are Magdalen College, considered one of the most beautiful, and Christchurch College whose quadrangle was used in the 1st Harry Potter film. Its cathedral choir also sings evensong.

Other notable colleges are Balliol and Merton, the 2 oldest, while Hertford College has the Bridge of Sighs. Next door is the cavernous Bodleian Library, overlooking the round Radcliffe Camera, the city’s best-known landmark.

The university also has a botanical garden and the best Oxford museums, including the Ashmolean Museum and Natural History Museum, where swifts nest in summer.

Unsurprisingly for a student town, it has lots of bars and restaurants. Oxford shopping is also good and includes England’s oldest covered market, brightly colored High Street shops, and the Clarendon and Westgate shopping centers.

Whether you arrive by road or fly into London Oxford Airport, don’t leave without trying Oxford punting. In contrast to rival Cambridge, you punt here by standing in the front (rather than on the back). Easily accessed from the Oxford accommodations on Booking.com, the routes take in the River Cherwell and the Isis (the name for this part of the Thames).

Just Oxford being Oxford.

Just Oxford being Oxford. Lovely place to visit been there many times. The walks, university or around the city are lovely. Botanic gardens a must visit. If new to Oxford take the tour bus to get a feel for the city. Lovely parks and walks along the river. Great eating and night life. Use park and ride frequent and lovely drivers. The covered market is not as varied as it used to be mostly eateries now, but there a loads of lovely restaurants. It is due to b refurbished soon so may not be open for a while, but if it is go there.

I have visited Oxford many times due to family in the area. I would suggest visiting for a long weekend. Harry Potter fans can visit locations from the films, literature fans can visit the halls some of their favourite authors attended. Shopping, eating out/drinks are all within easy reach of this location.

we did not go into Oxford as we were further out than expected and had other plans for Saturday which going into Oxford from where we were would have been disrupted. I have been to Oxford a number of times and have always enjoyed it, this visit was a little addition to plans we already had. We ate locally in Summertown where there was a great choice of restaurants and eating establishments

It had been a long time since I visited Oxford and much had changed. It was fun to explore some of the better-known places (Ashmolean, of course, as well as one or two of the cottages), as well as lesser known ones (the History of Science Museum -- an unexpectedly delightful gem).

A lovely city. A day or two is fine. The Cotswolds tour is a must. There are great pubs to dine and have a drink. The hop on hop off was helpfull. We also used taxis to and from the station, which was very close.

Our standard double room was clean, warm and comfortable and equipped with all we required. Breakfast served to order was excellent, overlooking the Thames Pathway- an optional route into Oxford City centre. The hotel’s honesty bar was an added bonus, and its own car park was most convenient so close to the city centre.

Clean and modern hotel, situated in Summertown, which is a lovely area of suburban Oxford. It's quite a walk from the city centre, but the buses are very regular (even on Bank Holidays!) if feeling weary. The staff were lovely and friendly too. Lots of shops and cafes close by for breakfast.
