We could not get to hotel as the only road to get into the services was closed. We found somewhere safe to pull over and phoned the hotel. The lady we spoke to said show your hotel confirmation to the work men and they will let you through. I explained that there was no workmen in sight and as it was a busy roundabout coming off a motorway I didn't think it was safe or legal to stop and wander about.. The lady then said I don't know what you can do as there is no other way in.Then again why should the hotel bother room paid wether we got there or not.We gave up and had to complete our long drive home after a long flight arriving after midnight I checked my email yesterday morning and was surprised to have an email from the hotel thanking me for checking in. Peterborough Cathedral is a spectacular building with the tomb of Katherine of Aragorn and the original space where Mary Queen of Scotts was buried. It is well worth a visit. On Sunday evening we had a walk around and discovered Charters Bar which would be a great place to visit on a warm summers day but outside was a chilly. However, the barge was interesting with a good range of beers and a warm atmosphere. Good size rooms, very comfortable beds, decent bathrooms with shower gel, shampoo, conditioner and nice body lotion (only the shower head could have been nicer). Great breakfast with loads of choice. Dinner was very enjoyable with good selection, and very appreciated that one can reserve a table anytime for the half board meal. Good gym facilities and nice studio. We had a lovely welcome on reception desk and they had listened to my prior request for a room near to entrance door and told us about this when we arrived. The kitchen and dining area were quite spacious. Comfortable beds and good showers. Very convenient parking right outside. We had family connecting rooms, loads of space and 2 bathrooms. Used the spa, quite quiet even in half term. Pub next door fantastic, great atmosphere, staff fab and food really good. Breakfast also very nice. Location next to Nene park lovely for family walks and cycling. Very short drive into Peterborough.
