Pilsley was a lovely little village, far enough away from the surrounding towns and cities to give us enough peace and quiet to fulfil our needs. Due to health problems we had not had any break for many years. Pilsley was an interesting village to stroll around in the evenings and the residents were so friendly. I'd recommend visiting the church if you are into history. There are plenty of places for food such as the local chip shop, 2/3 inns and a well stocked convenience store if you prefer a picnic style meal. We could obviously have booked a meal in The Willow Tree but we decided to go alfresco. If you take the trouble to explore a little, you'll find that Pilsley is quite a hive of activity if you are prepared to join in; lots of posters to tell you "what's on" At the time we were staying in Pilsley it was celebrating the anniversary of VJ day. We also attended an agricultural show at nearby Ashover whilst there which brought back memories for my wife (as a relative local when young) and made new ones for us both. Our main aim on this visit was to leave behind a hectic time in our lives and to go somewhere nice and peaceful to enjoy a couple of days away to recharge our batteries. Mission accomplished!

Pilsley is not a pretty village, there is a boarded up pub almost opposite the Willow Tree Inn. It feels ‘run down’. It is close to the fabulous Harwick Hall but it’s not a nice village. Better to stay at the White Horse in Woolley Moor.
