Not really impressed with the Town of Poole.

Not really impressed with the Town of Poole. Looked tired and a bit cheap and cheerful in patches. But appeared to have a good selection of various shops and cafe's the length of the high street.

Lots to do and see beautiful countryside. The Quay was lovely and well thought out. Shopping was reasonable and plenty of choice. Good bus links and open topped bus looked fun. We had family in Poole went to Greyhound Pub in country and had excellent Sunday lunch. The cowshed in Upton did excellent breakfast.

We liked Poole a great deal as we were there during a festival of the sea event there was lots going on, with music and special exhibitions. Very vibrant. Walking friendly and well sited for other attractions nearby. We went on 'Jurassic coast and steam train' package which had been given to us as a Christmas present.

As the largest natural harbour in Europe you might imagine Poole to be a watery paradise - unfortunately it's very built up and you don't get a sense of the location from most of the town. However it's in easy reach (via the Sandbanks chain ferry) of the beautiful nature reserve of Studland bay, the Victorian resort of Swanage and the Dorset (jurassic) coastline stretching to the west. Not to mention Brownsea Island in the harbour. Sandbanks beach is clean and unspoilt with lifeguards on hand - and if you have the energy you can walk along the beach to Bournemouth. The New Forest is a stone's throw away and public transport via bus from Poole to the coast and inland is exceptionally good and easy to navigate.

We booked this at the last minute as our ferry back from Guernsey was delayed and we missed our train home. Hotel is right next to Poole park, which made for a nice morning walk the next day, and is very close to Poole town centre and the railway station. Staff were super helpful, friendly and welcoming which was lovely when we arrived at 1am due to the delayed ferry! Breakfast was good and easy the availability of non-dairy options very much appreciated.
