A small village with more than enough eating venues, accommodation, shops. Every venue us professionally managed, locals friendly and appreciate visitors. These people know how yo present their village to the best of their ability. Sits on the edge of Ullswater and has the ferry terminal for you to take advantage of and sail the length of the lake.

Lovely village with easy access to the lake.

Lovely village with easy access to the lake. However, the village was really busy (to be fair, this was a hot weekend in July - but it was pre school holidays) - and noisy (e.g. loud music playing outside various pubs). During the day the roads around are packed with cars, often dangerously parked. Lovely walk at Aira Force waterfall, but you need to get to the visitor centre early to get a parking space. Personally I would not go again in summer as it's too busy for me (like most of the Lake District) but I would visit again off season.

    Stayed At the Sun Inn.

Stayed At the Sun Inn. The Inn was very noisy due to musical entertainment in the bar which could be clearly heard in our rooms, although this finished around 23:30. We were then disturbed by random fire alarms and a yapping dog. The pub later became the epicentre of a mass brawl involving around twenty youths, some of whom sustained serious injuries. The whole place felt unsafe and I was obliged to bring my teenage children from their own rooms into ours. Police and ambulances eventually departed circa 03:00. Consequently we got little or no sleep and were only too pleased to leave the next morning. I have no wish to repeat this experience!

Pooley Bridge itself has ample facilities including a small selection of shops, public houses and restaurants, a very pleasant place to visit. The pier for Ullswater steamers is only a very short walk from the village and well worth the trip on the Lake. Car parking by the bridge is limited but in the village itself is another car park at £4 for the day. An excellent starting point for walks e.g. Askham Fell to Howtown, The Dalemain Loop and Lowther Castle Loop.

Pooley Bridge is a busy large village at the top of Ullswater. Great for walkers, bikers and dog walkers. Its also very well located to travel around the Lake District visiting National Trust properties, Windermere and exploring the abundant natural, historic environment. Conservation is obvious, as the character of the place is unspoilt, well maintained and looking beautiful.

Pooley Bridge is a lovely little village, right on the banks of Ullswater. There's a lovely walk to the lakeside with a choice of two paths; one actually on the lakeside which is great for families and dogs without mobility issues and there's a higher path which is better for pushchairs. There are water sports to hire and a food outlet on the lakeside. There's also a small jetty. In Pooley Bridge itself there are some excellent shops that really do sell everything you might need and there are pubs and tea rooms too. We have eaten in most of the pubs and the food has always been really good. The only problem with Pooley Bridge is it gets too busy and you have to get used to queuing!

Amazing location, cozy and comfy inside. Pooley Bridge is a short walk away (torch needed at night as no pavement to walk on and minimal road lighting). 1863 restaurant in Pooley Bridge is worth a visit.
