Honestly , this place is way better then the booking.com review rating .It’s a proper hotel with large bar / restaurant & there is a comfortable lobby to sit in . The grounds around the hotel were lovely and it’s only a couple of minutes walk to the beach and town center. There is an aura of faded grandour & you couldn’t argue that a repaint should be imminent but in context the hotel itself is quite impressive and it was cheaper to stay here then most European hostels charge for a dorm bed plus after spending a lot of time in guesthouses and air bnb’s it was lovely to be surrounded by the sheer space and scale of a proper hotel .. plus the staff were great;)

The hotel is situated on the fantastic esplanade with wonderful views of the beach. The food in the hotel was excellent with a wide choice of all courses and very well presented. The staff were helpful, professional and extremely friendly. The hotel was immaculate with plenty of comfortable seating areas.

Lovely couple to greet us, best service ever, nice room, comfortable beds, oustanding breakfast, close to the beach and shops. Having a nightcap with people you never met before and feeling like you have known them all your life. It felt like a home, not just a place to stay. Warm and welcoming atmosphere.

    We really like Sandown, love the beaches as we love to swim in the sea, only downside to Sandown is it really needs an injection of money, very run down in places, such a shame, it must have been so much better in the past.

    It could be that it was the end of the season but I found Sandown to be very tired looking. The pier was full of life and colourful. Plenty of regular buses to take you around. Nice walk along the seafront to the zoo.

    This was probably a nice seaside town in it's day, but that is no longer the case. The town centre has many run down or boarded up shops. There is a pier which is full of amusement arcades and gaming machines, but that is about all there is here. We made use of the excellent bus network to go and visit Osborne House, and getting a bus out of town is probably your best option.

    Sandown has a feel of being neglected a bit over the last few years. It still has some good facilities but overall the town looks a bit "past it". A bit of investment is perhaps needed (and pot-holed in the side roads need attention

    Sandown is a family friendly seaside town, with a pier and amusements. The beaches are clean and safe; the main 3 stretches of beach are dog free. A selection of restaurants and pubs selling traditional pub grub are to be found around the town. The shops in the town are varied although like many of our town centres, quite a few are boarded up now. There are 3 parks close by for families with young children. The wildlife sanctuary is well worth a visit as are the nearby towns of Ryde and Shanklin. The local buses are clean, reliable and all the drivers are helpful and friendly.

    This is a very small and quiet residential town . Don't go there for the night life or boutique shopping . The beach is sandy and good for swimming. Lots of interesting places for day trips near by.

    Great location near Sandown train station, main street and seafront. Perfect for enjoying the beach and the town. The fixtures and fittings in the hotel were modern and we were able to enjoy our stay in the town. It was handy to have the little common area with bowls, plates, etc.

    We had a lovely cozy room. There were everything that we needed: a kettle, cups, tea, towels, shampoo, etc. They also had a microwave and a fridge in the dining area. The hosts were super friendly. We recommend this hotel to everyone who wants to have a nice vacation in Sandown.

    Great location, quick walk to the beach and high street! Outside very scenic. Stayed during Isle Of Wight Festival and the shuttle bus pretty much stopped right outside the hotel!
