A beautiful and peaceful village with a lovely pub. Everyone is friendly and it felt very safe. It is a great place to visit to relax and enjoy a slower pace of life. Chalk & Cheese is in the village of Shouldham, and not in Shouldham Thorpe, which is nearby. The village has a lovely traditional "green" with a bench seat surrounding a large tree, an old red phone box (still working) and it appears that there were originally two pubs. One, The Rampant Horse is now a private dwelling. Opposite, the Kings Arms is run as a community pub by the villagers. Chalk & Cheese is owned by the proprietors of the adjacent antique and gifts business. In the village there is a post office, but no shop. At least two houses sell fresh eggs by the roadside. There is a social and bowls club, a village hall and a lovely church overlooking the village from a hill. There is also a playing field with goalposts for football and some childrens' play apparatus. We spoke to two or three locals around the green, who were very welcoming. The thought and originality invested in the comfort and convenience of the accomodation was outstanding and the hosts were attentive, communicative and helpful. It was very central to lovely areas.
